I just started playing abut a month ago and am looking for a marker to purchase. Was considering a spyder but don't really want a marker I need to upgrade so much right away. How is the BKO? Is it difficult to maintain? Also does it use nitro exclusively? I will mostly be playing speedball indoors but some outdoor also.
From reading the reviews it seems this is the best marker for under $300

If you are going to stay in the sprot for a while then yes the bko is a great marker for a beginner. it also depends on how much you are going to play. if its less then once a month then id go with a soyder but if its at least once a month then go for it. it is pretty easy to maintain. all the basic upkeep is in thje upper tube which you just pull the bolt pin out and out comes the bolt so you can clean the whole upper tube. u might be able to get away with co2 but u will need to have it a/s. also i would recommend a stab(stablizer, sp?) its made by palmers pursuit. here

and yes it is the best NEW gun you can get for 300!

What does a stabilizer do exactly? How much do you think I will need to spend to get the marker up and running. Other than the nitro tank and a good hopper does it need anything else?

the stab is a reg. i dont know how to exactly xplain wat a reg does without sounding stupid but there are better ppl to explain it to you ie impya, lotus, yoda, shootpaint. but lets see.
it regulates the amount of air that goes into your gun at one time. if you get a 04 bko the have ok regs(inline reg...the fore grip, and the LPR the thing under the bkos barrel) i said get a stab if you are running co2 but if you are getting HPA(nitro) then you wont need it. i would get a new barrel first and then a vapor valve...or just go play! the only thing you need to do is get a halob(cause a lot of ppl out dhoot egg2 on their bkos) a HPA tank(or a anti siphoned co2 tank, with a stab if you have the money) and do the macro line mod. here is a link.

Is it possible to use c02 on a 2004 bko? I would prefer to stay away from nitro as the field I play on doesnt have it. But I don't want to ruin the marker either

it is possible to run co2 on a bko but you need to get a few extra things. There is a great co2 faq in the ultimate FAQ sticky that will explain to you exactly what you need. Besides getting an air source and hopper you will need a drop/rail and an on/off to get the bko up and running.
