Look at this. I think speedball: the movie might turn out well. Look through all of this. Some of you might have seen this. This director seems like he knows what he is talking about.
Q. Have you ever or do you now play the sport of paintball?
A. I have been a player for 10 years, and have been a member of "Thrill
Seekers",
"Shockwave", and "Tsunami".
Q. What led to the idea for creating "Speedball: The Movie"?
A. I wrote the script using my actual experience with the sport, and loosely
based
the characters around my experiences with the wide variety of people I have met
and
played with.
My underlying theme for this movie is that 'Mans's greatest obstacle is his own
self".
Q. What’s the target audience for the movie?
A. Young, Extreme Sports enthusiasts from age 12 to 60.
Q. Will the movie be seen in theatres or is it going to be distributed
differently?
A. The goal at this point is for the movie to premier in theatres, before bieng
released
on video. We have some support and funding from Paris, as well as support from
APG
and Paintball Magazine.
Q. I noticed a large influence of martial arts training in the synopsis…do you
see
a benefit of Martial Arts training as applied to Paintball?
A. I feel that the guidelines of martial arts and paintball are very much the
same.
I think that paintball is the martial arts of the 21st Century. Both schools of
thought
and training require the same self-discipline.
Q. What lead to the casting of Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Taimak Guari? What other
actors are you planning to interview for parts in the movie?
A. I selected him (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) because he has a recognized name in
martial
arts. He will be casted as the bad guy.
I chose Taimak Guari because he is a passionate, dynamic actor who was perfect
for
the role. I was also impressed by his work in "Last Dragon".
Q. Besides Oh Pawlak, who else is contributing technical advice to the movie?
A. I used Oh Pawlak, and I was considering Dave Youngblood for additional
advice.
Q. One of the characters is written as being addicted to drugs…what sort of
message
do you think that this sends to viewers?
A. It gives the audience the message that the characters are human. We all have
our
flaws to overcome. I believe that the characters need dimension in order to keep
the interest of the viewer.
Q. In my opinion, Paintball is a decidedly non-PC activity…what is your vision
for
making it more palatable to soccer moms?
A. This movie is non-militant. The players will be wearing jerseys instead of
camo
to give it more of a sports-oriented basis.
I expect to have dynamic, steady-cam footage, and CGI effects.
Q. I noticed a focus on the multicultural aspect of the team portrayed in the
movie…is
there a point to that?
A. This movie is based on my experience playing in Southern California. Look
around
here (SC Village), there are people from many different cultures.
Q. Is the script as written in the synopsis the final script, or is it subject
to
change?
A. The synopsis is subject to being re-written just like everything else is
before
he final edit..
Q. What sort of music do you envision being used in this movie?
A. Action music--120 to 140 bpm. Sneaker Pimps is interested in recording two
post-production
songs for the movie.
Q. Will the product placement agreements be written so that only one brand of
paintball
gun will be seen in the entire movie?
A. I would like for there to be as many 'guns possible in the movie, enough to
where
every charector could have his own personal 'gun, just like in real life where
people
have their own style, I would like to reflect that.
Q. When will the finished product be released, approximately?
A. It will be released next year.
Q. Were you aware of the link between the internet and paintball?
A. Yes I am aware of it.
Q. What would it take to be cast in the movie?
A. Tallent, Passion, I'm not looking for people who are merely good looking to
fill
roles, but people who actually play paintball, or who have played the sport.
Q. Are you using real teams to oppose the fictional team in the movie and offer
tech
support?
A. Yes, and all the extras seen in the movie will be players, not just cast
extras.
Q. Do you have an opinion on Full Auto Markers?
A. I don't feel that they should be allowed in tournaments.
Q. Do you have an opinion on camoflage vs. Jerseys?
A. I feel that it isn't really nesicary to wear cammo. I think that jerseys are
one
of the ways to bring the sport into the mainstream.
Q. Is it the player, or the gun?
A. The Player.
