hey i need all of you paintball lovers to help me out. my mom is going to purchase me a new paintball mask. i have another thread very similar to this (v force or proteous or flex ize 7) but that one is going too slow to be much help. i made this thread in hopes to get more replies due to the more exciting title. the catch is that this wednesday the 12th i think is my last day to order. i am probably going to order online.

i've narrowed it down to these choices but you can try to convince me to buy other masks too.

v-force shield, v-force morph, proteous, dye invision (MAYBE)

i need a mask that i'll hopefully never need to replace (minus the lense of course). right now i have a BE deluxe mask so any of these masks will be a huge upgrade.

i've heard thermal lenses scratch like a *****, but they don't fog as much as singles.

i like the v-force's because of the quick lense removal although i have yet to take the lense outta my BE mask:rolleyes: .

Please tell me which is better in peripheal vision, and ANTI-FOG ability, hearing capabilities, and price. (other catogories are open as well), i don't really want the flex ize 7 because the soft bottom hits hurt a bunch i've heard, and i havn't even got hit in the mask yet after 2 years, and i just want a new mask that WON'T fog and has GOOD perpheal vision.

i hope ya'll can reply soon, and also i live in central florida where its very hot and very humid

thanks alot you guys:)

hey i've had my proteus since they came out they r great masks and yea that are really small and they lower your profile alot the lenses r great on them mine have never fogged i just bought a pair of tinted lenses and they work good in the proteus also at first they r a little uncomfortable but after about 2 time playing they fit right to the size of your head i say go with them i got mine from pballgear.com for pretty cheep.

I got a nForcer, they kick ***, but sometimes when you go to take the lens and stuff out it's a pain in the ***. When it comes to trying to speak in the nForcer, there is alot of voice bounce back, but the hearing is excellent. Nforcers are also wrap-arounds, so there is good head protection. they come with a visor too.

Oh yea, in reply to your other questions, the nForcer has a spectra, with it's 260 degree vision. Thermal lenses DO scratch, but only the inner lens (they also have an annoying visual effect where you can partially see your face).

i dont know about you guys...

but i prefer the plain old JT spectra thermals....

i think they provide as good or more coverage than the proteus, and i like the looks of it...

a solid mask, now appearing cheaper and cheaper

right now i think i'm not leaning towards the v-force shield anymore, and right now i'm probably gonna go for the proteous, i have til tomorrow to decide,

i figure i'll get the proteous $50
later i'll get a single lense (not thermal) $19

when i get the single i'll get anti fog spray (or make my own), because i've heard thermals scratch VERY VERY EASILY.

i'll still very very open to opinions so please reply soon:)

Reasons to get an Invision:

Field of view, look at the pictures of it, the lense offers a very wide field of view.

The Invisions vents are designed for maximum deflection ( so you don't get paint in you mouth)

The earpieces let you hear amost as if you didn't have the goggles on.

I would actually reccomend you try them out (if you can) becuase you MAY not like them. It's all personal preference.

as much as i would like to, trying them on is not an option.

for my size, just in case it matters, like if the mask will be too big or too small

i'm 15, 5'6", 132 pounds

i don't know about the invision, it looks like the lense is pretty flat, and the proteous can take fans and junk.

keep the replies coming

i've started to read alot of reviews for the v-force shield and the proteous.

these are facts (statements) that i've gathered PLEASE CORRECT ANY OF THESE IF THEY ARE INCORRECT. thanks

proteous- much much smaller profile=less hits=no need to take out lens to clean, can accept fans, has full line of accessories, lens are very easy to find and can be changed fairly easily if your at home, doesn't fog-period, rotating ear pieces allow for much easier hearing, new design means no talk-back.

v-force armor- much much easier to change lenses=can be changed between games or even during a game if you play reinsertion games, barely fogs, must bigger profile than proteous=more possible chances to get hit=more gog hits=need to replace lens sooner, lens are anti fog and eventually wear off even if you never get gogged, the part of the mask by your mouth looks like if you get tagged there you'll eat paint like its syrup.

as you can see the list for teh proteous is more good than bad and its the opposite for the v-force. now i havn't tried either of these so this is based solely on reviews and me looking at the pictures.

please help, tomorrow is my last day to decide and order.

and once you pick the mask you want me to go for (or think i should go for) give me the website with the cheapest prices.

Well, if you've narrowed it down to that. Get the Proteus. $50 at http://www.paintballgear.com

ss15 or whatever,

what do you mean if i've narrowed it down to that, do you think there are better masks elsewhere, if there are please tell me, i may be interested.

my mom said its too late
i didn't order yesterday so i think i will today

i can get a proteus (black) for 40 bucks

i can get a shield (black) for 30 bucks, please tell me if the black shield is the rental version or the standard one

OK here's the facts for me:

the lens change system is not REALLY important to me, it would be awesome to have a quick change system but i don't need it that much

ok, now neither of the masks fog, am i right about this, i want one that NEVER fogs at all. (under normal central florida playing conditions)

i might build a fan

they both have visors

which lense is more scratch resistant, which is clearer, which will fog less

i guess the v force lense, to me at least, looks like it is clearer, and fogs less, also i think they're cheaper than spectra thermals

but the proteus will let you hear and talk alot better right? although since i play woods its not ALL that important, it would be alot easier to yell and start the game, rather than shooting 5 consecutive quick shots

please please please reply, i need all ya'lls help, and i'll keep monitoring this mask forum

and also, surrendodorie, sorry i had to get off the net yesterday, and i don't know if you tried to pm me. thanks anyway

I would suggest a JT N'Vader mask. JT makes many replacement parts if anything gets broken. Thats about it. Time for me to go back to school.

I know how to make a more effcient fan than anything JT makes. The wonderful people at radio shack are normally happy to hel[ and if you want the directions just email me at :

Magic_Pop-Tart@juno.com

My design costs less than 20 bucks and takes about 10 minutes to assemble.

Silent Knight

JT Flex-7

this mask is a hella lot more confortable then any of the other JT masks out there, even the Proteus. That is my own opinion from usage though.

i tink that is BS but thats my opinion

are you talking to me?

why is that BS?

dont get me wrong but i think you just posted something positive about the flex 7.

It depends. Where do you play more?

If you're a woods player, do not get the Proteus. It is very shiny, and could give you away. A JT Spectra [preferably olive] would serve you better.

If you're a speedball player, feel free to get a flashy mask like the Proteus or nForcer. The Proteus has a very small profile, and you can get different color pods for the nForcer.

I don't know about the VForce and the Dye. I know you can get that JT Tool barrel plug that can be used to remove lenses. I've also heard that the Dye has great voice projection.

the v force is really nice.

it has great protection and gives bounces on visor and throat guard.

and lense is super easy to change,

get Nforcer, flex-7, or just 260 spectra.
proteus has no neck coverage.

i'm happy with my $20 JT alpha 2000 from wal-mart :D

my mast looks pretty sweet... i've got it all camoed up, and i have this olive green/brown parachuet chord hanging from it to break up the mask outline and i also have a ghillie hat to go with it... so you look like predator when you run through the woods :)

get an olive green colored mask.. a plain black mask is easier to spot in the woods... when u start moving its pretty easy to spot a big black object moving through the woods.

Try them all on and get which ever one you want. We can tell you small technical details but you seem to know them all.

It's all about what you want. We can't decide for you and I think we've helped about as much as we can.

Good luck.

You probably got your mask already, but anyway...
I just got JT nForcer w/ the thermal lense. I play in the woods, so I took the pods off. God, it looks sweet! It's very low profile now [since the pods are off, and the vents the pods were covering are concave], and still anti-fog. It looks sweeter w/ the vizor. If you've seen a PMI XRay Goggle, it looks like it, except w/ the Spectra Lense.

I'd grab a V-Force Shield. Great mask, NO FOG AT ALL. Unfortunately the no fog policy isn't followed by the Proteus. I was going to get one but then my friend played with his brand new one and found that it fogged a lot. He doesn't have the X-Wind, but who wants a fan buzzing on top of your mask when you can pay like $10 - 20 more and get a mask that never fogs at all? They were playing in the snow when his mask fogged up big time, but my other friend who was using a V-Force mask didn't even get a bit of fog. Great masks, and very comfortable! Plus the Shield comes with the neck protector / chinstrap so that's a plus too :) Not to mention the quick release of the lense. w00t! Great feature, saves SOOOO much time.

you should get a flex 7 thermal.its never fogged on me, and very comfortable.

The Proteus is the best mask I've ever used, but I got an awesome deal on it ($40). It's not worth the MSRP; if you can't find somewhere with a sale on it, go for a different mask that's reasonably priced.
