I'd say it's a half-way decent first gun.

Check out this site:
www.pbreview.com

They have reviews on all their guns, I think they even have one on the A-5, you may want to check there, after all that's www.pbreview.com 's main feature.

Good luck.

I have owned the A-5 for a few months and have used it on 8 seperate occasions for all-day-paintball games at local fields. This gun has been flawless. I have shot about 7 cases of paint (14,000) shots and have not had a single break in the hopper. It is a bit of an air hog but I don't mind because everywhere I play has free refills. I would highly rec buying a HPA tank because the CO2 tends to freeze up fast in the cold weather with the high rate of fire the A-5 can produce. The stock barrel is horrible. I bought a 14" Smartparts Teardrop and now the gun shoots like a laser.

I bought it at Bad Boyz Toyz near my home in Chicago. It was $39.99. You would never know it was that cheap from the way it shoots.

HPA is High Pressure Air. It is better than C02 because it is more consistant in different tempuratures. I have a Tippmann 98 Custom with a 12" SmartParts Teardrop barrel. I like my barrel a lot. My brother also has a Tippmann 98 Custom with a 14" J&J Ceramic barrel, it shoots very well. I would highly recommend both of these barrels. I also like the Tippmann A-5, if I had 200+ dollars when I bought my 98C, I would have bought an A-5 instead.

PS. An HPA tank is more expensive than a C02 tank, buy an HPA tank if you have the money, if not, C02 will do fine. Just take note of the outside tempuature.

I own the A-5, i love the A-5. It being my first paintball gun, I cant compare it to much... But Ive only had 2 breaks ever since I first played with it. It doesnt really hog that much co2 or whatever u use, and i love how the hopper is on the side and lets u see down the site. Plus its built like a tank. Be sure to get it online, ull get a MUCH better deal

I've owned my a-5 going on probably 5 months. LIke stated before, in 5 months approx. 10-12 games i've never broken a ball in my barrel, not once. I haven't noticed anymore gas usage than my old viewloader genesis surge. As for first barrel I strongly reccomend a 10-14 in. Lapco Bigshot.

I love the barrel, I can tell you from personal use, its one of the best out there in the view of bang for your buck. Mine cost me 56$ at countypaintball.
