Hey Andy and friends,

Ok, so basically the PM has an itsy bitsy problem. They're generally useless except for brief messages. For example, I'm really having a good discussion with Crime Dog right now, but I can't take it into the forum for personal reasons and I can't use PM either since it limits the amount of space you have. REALLY limits it. I get maybe a third of the way through the message and then I have to write another one...and another..and another.... and so on to finish what I have to say.
Now, why don't I just use e-mail? Because frankly, I hate my e-mail but am kinda stuck with it. Halfway through the e-mail I'll hit the backspace key and it will make my BROWSER (not the cursor) go back a page and then I'll have to start over again. Don't ask me why, but hotmail does this. Or I'll finish the e-mail and hotmail will tell me their service is temporarily down and can't send the message right now. Basically, what I'm trying to say is the PM service rocks, especially over e-mail, but the amount of characters is too limited. I reccomend at LEAST doubling it. The way I figure is that if someone is going to type that much they have something worthwhile to say that's worth the drive space. If, however, it's brief (like say, a trade arrangement) then it won't matter anyway because it will be short. I regularly clean my PM box and I feel like I shoudln't have to send three different messages to Crime Dog or anyone to get my point across. Lately, I've just been axing all the extra sentances and sacrificing content because I didn't want to fool with a second PM.

Let me know what's being done about this.

Thanks guys.

-Mike

Well, nothing is being done about it right now. But since you brought it up, we'll take a look at it!

Edit: Actually, I decided to make a limit, just so people don't decide to have fun and pm someone a 800,000 character pm that freezes their browser. I made the limit 30,000 characters. Is that ok with you?

You could probably actually bump it up to 100,000 (seeing as how they ARE counting characters.) There aren't many messages that are going to be that long, but 100,000 still won't freeze up the browser even on a 56k, since it's only text. Try it and see if anyone notices. That would be my suggestion.

I actually prefer AOL IM.

Also, though it would be nice to have a larger character count, Andrew doesn't have to up it to anything, he's doing it cause he's nicer than most people's mommas, I wouldn't try and push anything past him.

do you really need that much space? i wouldnt even want to read a PM that long . . . i am happy with the way it is, and everything else on pbreview for that matter.

Well, the reason I can't use AIM is cuz my internet accdess comes from the locl library and they don't let me download anything. So my PMs kinda have to be long.
