If you see someone with a long sig, drop them a PM. Most of the time people aren't aware that there is a limit and are happy to change it. I usually just copy and paste this into my PM:

Up your resolution if you can't handle it. But, overall, I agree. It shouldn't be so big as it takes up half the screen.
