I just got my freak kit and was wondering what the proper way to size the balls with the inserts. Also i got a ss back for a mag and it sais i should be able to slide the inserts out the back of the back peice and with mine there is no way i can do that. Is this normal?? Thanks

the inserts should come out of the front of the back piece, not the back. it is normal.

There are two ways to properly size your paintballs for the freak. The first is more technical. If you have a Caliper that measures outer diameter, measure the paintball by holding the bottom jaw on the seam of the balland starting to the right of the top center rotate the caliper top jaw counter-clockwise until the largest measurement is had. Do the math to figure out what the fraction is of the measurement. this will usually give you a # like .6875. Do this on ten paintballs. Omit the high and low #'s and average out the others. This is the diameter of the paintballs. Take your freak inserts and find the closest smaller diameter insert, that is your match. i.e. if you have a paint ball that is .6875 you want the .687 insert.
The second method is very simple, and is better if you need to change paint quickly. Take five paintballs. Take one of those and blow it through the largest insert. If it fits go to the second largest, if it blows through, go to the next insert, go until it either is so hard to blow through that you can hardly get it through or you just can't blow it through. Do this with all 5 balls and whichever insert can only just blow through or is just smaller than the balls is the right insert.

It's just that simple. I size my by placing a ball into the insert if it fall right thru it (the insert) is too large if it sticks alittle and I can blow it thru (with just a small amount of pressure) it's good. However if I pass out and turn blue I either can't get the ball thru the insert or I've inhaled it and it's stuck in my windpipe!

It is exactly that simple.

ok for a mag, you would put the painball in the insert first, and use a bigger insert then you think you would need first. If you are holding the insert vertical, if you poke the paintball it should role through. Then go to the next smallest insert. Thats what i do.
And when the guys with cockers are using a .689 insert, dont feel embarrassed to use an insert higher :D , because mags shoot a little better with a looser fit, unlike cockers which shoot better with a *little* bit smaller inserts for the paint. Its mostly to keep the paint from falling out, and the closed bolt design is a little easier on paint with a tighter fit. I usually use the .693 insert on my mag for mid grade-premium paint believe it or not, and it almost always works perfectly. accuracy and consistent-wise. After a couple days of play with your freak barrel you will learn the proper way to size the inserts to the paint and see what works best with your specific gun. in the case of mags, it is always better to use a *slightly* larger insert than the cocker guys.

I like to go with a slightly smaller bore size than the ball, but that is fust my preference, find what works for you and your gun and stick with it.
