Barrel lengths

How does the length of the barrel affect the accuracy or distance of a gun, i have a friend who thinks that the longer the barrel the faster, longer distance, and quieter it goes. He wants to get a 16 inch J&J and keeps tellin me my 14inch J&J is crap compared to a 16. Any one elese got any input on this?

The longer the barrel, the more space it has to build up friction. Longer barrels are better for hugging bunkers, but don't do anything for distance or accuracy.
