I'm a little confused right now. I'm going to be purchasing my first highend gun, but first I'd like to know more about them.

If you could please explain to me the differences, ups, downs, and maybe list an example of blowbacks, blowforwards, electro pneumonics, and whatever else there is it would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't have the time or patience do you think you could point me in the direction of a web site with this information.

Also, whats an autococker? I know what it is, but like in terms of blowback, blowforward, ect. what is it?

Thanks.

I can't type everything right now, so I will give examples of guns:

blowbacks=spyders

blowforwards=mags

electro pneu=impulses

Check the dictionary thread, I think they have it in there.

Autocockers, Blazers, CCM stuff, and pumps are all closed bolt.

The difference between open bolt and closed bolt:

Before the trigger is pulled (in an open bolt) the chamber is back allowing paint to some in. When the marker fires, the bolt is forward. (SFT as Smart Parts calls/patents it.)

With closed bolt markers, on the other hand, the bolt is in the "forward" position before the firing process begins. They then fire the paintball, and the bolt is pushed back by a ram, and then back into the forward position.

An advantage of closed bolt markers is that you don't have to worry about paint falling back into the hopper, when shooting at some wierd/crazy angle. However, if your paint doesn't fit your barrel/detent rings/whatever properly, you will experience roll outs.

Electro pneumatics, use an electrically controlled ram to cycle the bolt, and have electric trigger frames.

Closed bolt electro pneumatics have 2 selenoids, whereas open bolt pneumatics have one.

So a spyder is an open bolt right because it cocks itself back with the bolt in it

All spyders unless they have the R.A.I.L. on then are blowback, open-bolt markers.

Or have been converted to a pump, or have a custom closed bolt conversion...

Sorry I haven't touched my Spyder for a long time. But isn't the custom conversion, the RAIL?

ya. ANd i have never seen a pump conversion for a spyder. I have seen rail, and spyder-cockers but no pumps

Not all custom conversions are "Rail" conversions, ottersc customs has a diagram on a "do it yourself" styled conversions, and there is also "The One" connversion.

yes the spyder cocker that i mentioned is on ottersccustoms but other people have done the same thing. And the "the one" kit makes a spyder a true electro if i am not mistaken. rather than a blow back.

Yea you are right, I wasn't thinking when I posted that.

I have a picture of a pump spyder.
