View Full Version : Is A-5 for me?

I have been debating about my next gun purchase. I play primarily woodsball. One option I consider was the a-5 with flatline.
Anyway today I was playing a good ole game of 5 on 5 out on this big long trail. One team started at one end, the other team started at the other end. We screamed ready, the screamed go. I ran right and snuck up behind them. I was using a spyder imagine. I was maybe 75 feet away. Pop one of, fell maybe 10 feet away. Pop a second one of, chopped it. I was so pissed off.
Thats when I realized I might like a flatline. So, do you think an a-5 with a flatline is for me? I NEED accuracy. And my spyder isn't puttin' any out.

well... if you had another barrel on your spyder, and a decent air source.... then you could also have accuracy..
however, heres something you might wanna know before you jump to conclusions.
a-5 w/ flatline is good... but you will have to shoot small bore paint out for it to get on its backspin/accuracy... and usually smaller bore = more $$$

Alright thanks. I'm not sure what to do yet, though.

also, the a-5 already has an agitated loader. so thats $50+ dollars saved already.

If you're doing most of your shooting from a close distance, an a-5 with just a regular upgrade barrel will prolly work better then the flatline.

The A-5 w/ Flatline isn't that accurate from 20 yards and in, but if you need range and long distance accuracy the Flatline is awesome!:D

How hard is it to remove the a-5 flatline and replace it with a different barrel? I plan on having two barrels if I get an a-5. Most likely a flatline and a whisper or j&j ceramic.

a-5 flatline is amazingly simple... loosen 2 reciever bolts, a quick twist, and off it comes... no crazy adjusting like the m98 one.

Imagine is a chopping machine especially in full auto even with a semi forcefed loader like an evo2 or apache. The A5 has a very good semi forcefed(not just agitated) loader that makes it very difficult to chop because only one ball can enter the breach at a time and it turns with every shot (with good air source). It will save you more like $80. The A5 is a good choice for fire rates of 10-15 bps with very little if any chopping. You will need an eye on the imagine (or any other gun) to get that kind of ROF without chopping. It will end up costing you more.
If you learn how to arc your shots, a good barrel like the J&J ceramic will make you happy. If you want to aim using the iron sights on your A5 the flatline will give you a nice flat trajectory(once properly set up) out to 150ft or so. It will not give you the tightest shot pattern, but it will be good once properly set up and with the right paint. It is not as picky or inaccurate as some people say, but it also does not give you as much (if any) advantage as others will say.
Some will say that an A5 with flatline and egrip or RT is the best woodsball setup. How much better? That will be up to you.
You can get some thumbscrews to change barrels in less than 30sec, but unless the weather turns windy/raining or you break a ball in the flatline, I see no reason to go from the flatline to another barrel. The flatline will get the job done at any range in fair weather.

yes but dont forget the spyder w/ t-board is also amazing. imo the best way to decide is to actually go hold and use an a-5 and see for youself.

Alright, thanks. I play mainly woodsball and over about a year or so I've realized what I like doing most. That would be nice long shots and sneaky silent assaults. Today I played with my friend who had a 98c and a whisper barrel and it was REALLY quite. So I figured since I was saving up for a new gun I might want to spend it on an a5.

this is your fair warning.... A-5s are noisy be prepared to loose your stealthy position once you fire a shot... i have a A-5 with flatline and E-Grip and a f/x sniper solid stock and a aluminum for-grip, i love my gun with all the passion in the world but its noisy i tend to cover that up by saying its good, brings the fight to me but yea it really isnt a stealthy gun... also ive never had any trouble with it

Do you think the Whisper barrel would quiet the gun down a lot? What bout those bolt covers?

It will quiet it down, but even an autococker with wisper barrel can be heard from 200ft away, but it is very quiet compared to an A5 flatline. I would love to know what is the most quiet paintball setup.

where are you getting these facts from? quietness comes from porting, the more porting you have the quieter your marker will be... but efficiency will go down and you will need more air to propell the ball the same distance as a barrel w/ less porting.

My friend has a 2004 autococker with HPA. It was pretty quiet even with the stock barrel. After he got the 32degrees wisper barrel(which has tons of porting), it got even quieter. I assume, therefore, that a wisper barrel will quiet the A5 down, but I doubt it will be as quiet as the autococker with wisper barrel.
