I havn't started playing yet, but I think i'm gonna start soon, so I have a few questions

For one, my dad is always telling me that paintballs hurt like no other. How right is he? does the pain compare to anything?

Am I better off just renting equipment, or should i buy my own stuff?

where would I be better off playing, and indoor or outdoor feild?

At first it hurts a great bit because your not use to the pain. When you start playing alot it will be nothing more like a little pinch. Buy your own gear, like a spyder or a tipmann. Yes your parents will prolly give you a hard time about getting a "gun" but just keep talking to them and they will give in like mine did;)

eh paintballs don't hurt much untill you get a dozen of them on your back being bunkered :(

get your own stuff if you plan to play more then a couple of times a year.

start outdoors with your friends in backyards and such, so you don't get owned right away. Then eventually shift into the fields where the big boys play :)

"For one, my dad is always telling me that paintballs hurt like no other. How right is he? does the pain compare to anything?"

Some times, paintballs can hurt a great deal when being bunkered in certain parts of the body (That is, being hit point blank range). However, sometimes I've been plastered by 6 or 7 balls and literally have felt nothing. A few aspects to consider are the conditions outside (cold will magnify the pain on bare skin), velocities people are shooting at, brands of paintballs, ect. Also realize you may be wearing padded clothing and when you are in the game, you'll have adrenaline in your system which greatly absorbs the shock.

"Am I better off just renting equipment, or should i buy my own stuff?"

Your first few times you should rent equipment. Why invest money in something you end up not getting into? Similarly, if you find yourself serious about getting into the game, it's time to think about a few basic purchases, in this order:
Mask, gun, air tank, accessories.

"where would I be better off playing, and indoor or outdoor feild?"

Indoor fields are often geared toward an urban "close quarter" concept or are tournamenet style airball fields. Some require your velocity is lower than the standard of 280 - 300 feet per second because of this - however, you may find it very difficult to move and shoot if you are not playing among other newer players.

Outdoor fields are your best bet, however, its the winter and you must consider the amounts of people playing, the weather, ect.

Either way, welcome to paintball and hope you enjoy it!

Paintballs do hurt but you get used to it, It's nothing unbearable or anything it just stings. As for getting your own equipment, go for a few times and rent to see if you like it before u go buying anything, also if u decide u like it don't buy a really cheap gun, you'll play with it once or twice and find yourself wanting something better, spyders are good first guns, also really invest in a mask, this is the most important piece of gear and you'll be wearing it alot, so it is important to go for comfort and looks over low prices, I made the mistake of buying a semi cheap mask and now I'm stuck with one I hate ( parents won't let me buy a new one). Other than that don't worry about getting hit, its not that bad and you'll have more fun being aggressive than staying back. I hope you enjoy this sport I've had alot of fun with it.

I would compare the pain of a paintball to getting hit by a ping pong ball i guess.( Me and my friends have wars :), their actually pretty fun.) Keep in mind this is a ping pong ball hitting on bare skin not with shirt on.

welcome to paintball!

the most important thing is to get a good mask. when you do buy a mask try it on, make sure you like the looks, and also make sure you get one with a thermal lens. i got the cheapest mask i could getwith my first setup and im already going to get a new mask.

about the pain it feels like getting a bad tittie twister the first time, then it gets kind of like an anoying pinch.

I was getting all excited about goining paintballing this weekend, and all of the sudden, my dad says, "kid, if you want to go paintballing you have to pick a day, next summer, get your friends together, and maybe you can go."
well, I think this is psyco, i don't see a problem with going in the winter of "THIS" year. I said "why can't I go next weekend?"
so he said, "because I played paintball, and I hated it, so, I don't see why someone with completely different interests can possily be allowed to do something I personally don't like just because i don't like it," (ok, that might be a little over exagerated) "plus, it will hurt like no other in the cold."
So I said, "well it's not cold INSIDE at an INDOOR paintball feild" and I think that slowed him up a little bit.

could any of you guys back me up on this argument? I know anything hurts more in the cold, but won't the adrenaline and rushing blood make up for that, besides, there are a lot of indoor places that are just as good, right? Please help!

I hate when parents do that. They think that if they didn't like it your not. My stepdad went paintballing and it said it hurt alot, but thats because he was bunkered from his buddies from work who are policemen and have amazingly great accuracy but I really didnt care if it "hurt" because when your minds on something you cant take it off if you keep thinking about it. For instance, today in math class I was walking my pencil and drawing spyders. Thats when you know your overly obsessed with the sport. Anyway, my advice to you is to sit your dad down and tell him people that you know said it feels like a "pingpong ball" and it doesnt hurt anymore than being hit with a rat tail. A rat tail is a rolled up wet towel. Also, say to him "Dad, even though you may have not liked it i might so please let me play once to see what it's like."

I am pretty sure walking the trigger is when you rapidly use you index and middle fingure to shoot (that why the triggers are so long) but if I am wrong I have been looking in the wrong places...:(

whaen walking the trigger, do you use your middle and index fingers one after another, or do you use both fingers at once to pull the trigger?

Well...you alternate them, otherwise it would be kinda pointless...:eyes:

welcome to paintball!

it doesn't hurt that bad. to me it feels like a rubber band being snapped on you. but there are some shots that hurt really bad for some reason. tell your dad you just want to go try it out. and then tell him it is one of the safest sports out there.
or if everything fails and you dont end up going, then the day you were planning on going just sit at home and do nothing and if your parents ask you what you are gonna do today tell them nothing because all of your friends are out paintballing.( thats what one of my friends did, and they felt bad so they let him play).

hence the reason its called "walking" the trigger......

Walking the trigger is when you use both fingers. Make two little legs with your fingers and put ure index and middle finger standing up. Now pretend your fingers are walking. Thats basically what you do to the trigger but sideways.

I actually like it when it's a little colder outside.. cuts down on the sweating..
Think about it.. a lot of times you wear extra clothing when you paintball.. so it's not like you aren't insulated..

Does it hurt? I'm sure some people debate a little.. but it's not that bad from my perspective. Sure you feel it, however there is not much pain involved.
