View Full Version : Ethics of Bunkering in Adv. Walk Ons

Hey Guys,

I understand that this has been posted a few times, but I could not find one specifically with Advanced Walk ons in question. Anyway, I was playing at one of my local fields today which is open during the week and mostly it is just Advanced guys playing during the week, some on teams some not. Well during one X-ball game I was getting good cover from a back player and made a move to the snake which I plowed through and bunkered one of their fronts, only hitting him twice, firing 3 shots. Then when jumping in behind his bunker I was given the opportunity to bunker another mid player, this time firing twice hitting once, and neither of them were from point blank range (were about 10 ft.) and all shots were either chest of gogs, also each of the players was shooting an eclipse cocker and a bko or b2k3 or something respectively (so no rentals). The reason I am goin through all of this, is afterwards both guys hop up and are like wtf was that...it's just rec-ball you @#%@# @%#@ %#%#. You can imagine what happens after that. Now the ref on my field carries pocket chronos and I had him chrono me so they could see and I was shooting 275. My experience playing outside of switch ups with friends teams has been only a few times before I started to play seriously. So my question was, is bunkering like that out of line in Advanced Walk on games? There were intermediate and beginner games available at the time, and I agree that bunkering people who are new to the game, or getting them painfully close in walk on games is pretty jerk, and I don't do that. Was just wondering if anyone else agreed with them and if so I'll revise my tactics.

Thanks for the input...

Tell them to get over it. Bunkering is part of paintball.

You always will see people getting bunkered, even if they are walk-on games. There isn't even anything wrong with it either unless your field specifies that you have to be at least a certain distance away from your opponent to shoot them.

Well were they actually experianced or just some newbs with rich parents?

Does any local pro team or amatuer team practice there?

At my field XSV is there every Sunday if not at a tournament. This Sunday Oliver Lang and Tyler Harmin were also showed up. Sometimes other pro teams or amatuer teams show up. Or good players who want some good practice show up to practice with them. If you are a decent player then you can practice with them. Maybe you should go play with a local pro or amatuer team.

Why are they on the X-ball field then? They need to leave adv. because they received a mellow, one shot bunker and complained. I don't even complain if I get hit 5 times in the head when I get bunkered. Even after I get bonusballed walking to the deadbox. As a frontman ignore them and just keep going. Let them moan about it all they want, do not let one incident soften you up. You always need to get more aggressive. Don't let people say you are being to dangerous. That's just them being too afraid to do what you do.

They were either frustrated that you bunkered them and felt like whining or they're pansies.

Either way you did the right thing, bunkering is part of the game.

Yeah, I'm only 13 and I've been playing for a little over 2 years now and from experience, I know that you should not feel bad about bunkering them. It helps them get over their fear and if they can't take it they need to go play something else. Yeah alot of my friends are starting to play and I'll bunker them all they time. It not only teaches them to fear me ;) but it helps them get better.

bunkering is the best way to eliminate people at rookie/ novice level. since they are not experienced enough to close down lanes and don't communicate much. (not all novice teams are like this) it is part of the game and if they can't close down the tape they should be bunkered.

if they are rippin cockers etc and are playing an x-ball game tell them to stfu because if they cant takea bunker they need to go back to playing with rentals and with noobs =-P

they were probably very embarassed to get bunkered and thought they had to find something wrong with your ethics in doing it. Unless your playing first time kids bunkering is fine. If they've got a problem with it then they need to get off the field

I don't like being bunkered, who does? I don't think they have a right to be angry with you though. I'm sure they would do just the same to you but you beat em to it. It's part of the game so they need to toughen up and get used to it or play something else

thank you for the responses I thought I was correct and I let them know that, but I didn't want to be ignorant and do something that was uncalled for. I am trying to do whats right and not always whats right for me, and hearing that I did the right thing from people with more experience than myself is helpful. So thank you, and I'm gonna go bunker them again this weekend :) ....

Unless your field has a rule about bunkering, they have no right to gripe, especially if they're an advanced walk on group. If it's woodsball I might be kind and put one in their leg or foot but in a speedball game I'd bunker them too. I mean seriously...what are you going to do...ask for them to surrender?!

They make us barrel tap people ( i always get shot by the person on way or another ) out unless its an approved team practice....

they have the right to gripe...but doesnt mean you should care, they are playing advanced, get over it. Just tell them to shutup and play more, so they can enjoy the feeling of bunkereing people...then they wont complain so much. Or tell them to watch themselves and learn to counter-bunkere...I have this rule for myself, if I catch you trying to bunker me then I'm gonna let my fingers rock...yeah thats right you try and bunker me, I'm going to give you at least 50 bonus balls. Its happened before and it'll probably happen again, but when I do get bunkered, it makes me mad and only encourages me to watch myself better.

lol.. thanks I can appreicate that. To anwser question..there is an optional surrender rule in effect at that particular field, but I learned quickly that this is how it plays out...

me: "Surrender?"

them: " o ***#%@#"

me : "@%#(&)@#% (me getting lit up as they obviously have decided not to surrender)

so yeah the rule is just worthless unless you are playing against a young kid who is afraid at that point.. but yeah I agree with the sentiment just wanted to make sure I wasn't being an *** out there on the field. Thanks for the input as always...

Be thankful you can, I know most fields use the 10 ft. rule or in speedball the 5 ft. rule. Boo on both, bunkering is a part of the game, would you take the tackling out of pro football? NOPE! Just let them cry about it they will get over it and next time you run into then on the field just let them know that if the chance arises you'll do it again, maybe they'll just stay back.
