I've been hearing all kinds of crazy stuff about the bolts in the a-5 breaking real easy

don't wory about it the bolt is fine. Some people say that the power tube isn't durable, but I don't see any way it is breaking unless you drop it when the gun is disassembled.
There are atermarket bolts available but none of them are more than a step sideways in performance.

That bolt is slid aluminum i highly doubt i will ever break the way you are saying.

The stock bolt is the best one. 3 other companies make bolts, some are aluminum while others are delrin. In the end there is a marginal difference and it usually causes more problems than benefits.
As for the powertube. They have been known to crack when subdued to long periods of high rates of fire. If that happens you could get a metal power tube,it won't improve performance but it also won't crack.

The bolt is plastic. The hammer is metal.

I think think you answered your own question when you said I heard all kinds of crazy stuff. because of the short list of things that could give you a problem on this gun the bolt shouldn't be one of them.
