i'm new to paintball and this is from personal experience. me and about 15 of my friends decided to get into paintball. Most of us bought spyders and we are having a lot of problems with them. bolts are always loosening up or falling off. co2 leaking, hoses breaking, trigger problems.

they shoot pretty good, but they are made very poorly. my brother just bought a tippmann a5 and some of my friends got the 98 custom and it is much more durable. it actually shoots better too and doesn't make that loud, annoying sound after every shot.

i think you get what you pay for with paintball guns.although i hear the imagine is a great bang for your buck, i'm sure its not made much differently than the other spyders.

i think i'm gonna buy an a5 too :P

For more info check the general stickys. There is one about the ongoing tippmann vs spyder debate. I hope to buy an imagine soon, I cant shoot right when I want to fairly fast with the tippster. I need a walkable gun.

Well for the price difference between an A-5 and the 98c, you get a quick field strip (Which is a very slow one) and a different body. Thats about it for 100$+ price difference. Get a 98c... Hell, you could buy a BKO or Automag RT ULE (You need HPA for the 'mag, but it's the fastest mech and very cheap) or something similar.

Spyders are good if you remove the venturi, polish the internals, and/or actually lube them with some DOW and goldcup. Every marker needs to be lubed and that seems to be your problem. Broken hosing is from improperly setting it up, Don't use macroline/microlines unless you have under 500psi going through it or that WILL happen. Just use steel braideds. If those break, you are an idiot (Sorry, but if you can break those you truely are). Leaking co2 isn't affected by what marker it goes into. You probably have a bad pin valve. Is it even antisiphoned? Trigger problems? Of what sort? Did you fail in trying to mod it or something? And I can't answer the bolt question without knowing what kind of spyder you shoot because they all use different styles.

The sound would be your barrel. The internals on Tippmanns are louder than Spyder's if I'm not mistaken. Spyders do have out-of-the-box problems from cheap manufacturing, but polishing the internals (ottersscustoms has info on what to polish and what not to) and such will fix it.

The imagine is bang-for-your-buck because it's an electro spyder for 106$. It's the bets low-end marker deal out right now, considering a 98c is the only major low-end competitor thats the same pricerange and such. The imagine, with an aftermarker barrel, blows the 98c away. Espescially when Tboarded. Between the electro spyders, there is no difference but milling and cocking style. No performance diff for 100+$

If the Spyders you and yoiur friends own are poor quality, then they're probably the cheapest of cheap ( Victor, Victor 2). If you invest in a nice electro Spyder, it'll serve you better. As far as the 98 Custom goes, I love it. It's a good beginner gun, and if you don't want to go electro, you can get the R/T. But ultimately it's up to you.

yea, well the ones we are having problems with are the xtras and victor 1s.the spring on the trigger broke on the xtra and we had to replace the whole trigger frame with the victor frame. the xtra is also leaking co2 from the volumizer whens its only been used once. it came out to be an O Ring.

I'm sure the higher model spyders like the imagine or electra should be better.

You should have no problems with the Xtra, but the Victor is different. If you want to talk low-end, play around with a Victor. The Xtra is actually a very nice mech, fix that and sell the Victor's to a couple n00bs.

just wait till ya get a walkable gun w/o eyes or antichop bolt then youll be singing about wanting eyes, or something cause you keep chopping when you start walking fast. Trust me, it will happen. :)

and what you complained about on those two spyders is an easy fix, unless you know absolutely nothing about the marker. An oring leak is no big deal. It happens. Learn how to work on your gun. If you can find pictures online or instructions, you should.

Ive never had a problem w/ my tippmann 98.

if you get a spyder thats in the same price range of the 98 to a-5,, it will be as good...

no it wont I had so many ball brakes it was even funny. I was so fed up with my spyder I sold it for a 98c(with everything in my sig) on ebay. I sold the xtra with hopper and tank for 130$ and bought a tricked out for 200$. get a tricked out custom on ebay WAY more bang for your buck than a spyder.

Before you start your senseless spyder bashing let me go over somethings.

Spyders do, and will always need more maintenance than a Tippmann. Those problems you had are mostly because you did no take care of your marker. Tippmann are a work horse, and hardly need maintenance.

Also tippmanns are great beginner guns, but they are not the best for the price.
98c, and A-5 stock all have the performance of a stock mech spyder.

I would not get the A-5 if i was you. It is overpriced, and upgrades are expensive.

I would go on PBN, and find a used 68 carbine or 98c. Both will be better than the A-5.
