At the tournament I just previously played at I had a perfect shot at someone, but something (more like someone) was in the way...a moving ref. My opponent had about half of his body sticking out of a bunker, and I was ready to fire when a ref came streaking across the field. I knew that I wouldnt have another clear shot like this so i took it. However, I believe 2 of the shots ended up hitting the ref as he crossed my fire. He didnt say anything nor do i believe he cared that he was hit. But what would you have done? Would you have shot or felt sorry for the incoming ref and held off?

If I were playing rec ball, I probably would have held off and waited for the Ref to cross, but (and no, I've never played tournament before) if I had to pay an entrance fee and buy the "Field Paint Only" paint, and compete against a bunch of other teams ... I probably would have done exactly what you did ... and apologized to the Ref afterwards.

A ref knows that part of his job is getting shot in the heat of battle. I would have shot him if he got in the way.

Ive ref a few tournaments and when I get shot half the time I dont even know who shot me. I just go on about my business. And when someone apologizes to me i tell them its all good.

Experienced refs won't get in your way to be shot. Shoot him enough and he will learn to not be in the way and will become an experienced ref ;) ...

Hey man if the ref is running in your way and its a tournament then take the shots because if you are still shooting as he goes by the guy behind him wont see the balls comming for him. chances are youll hit both the ref and the player if he is still sticking out.

im not good enough for a shield:P so i carry my dye umbrella
I thnk everyone should ref a tourney to actually see how hard it is to see every hit. And how quick you have to make decisions that might decide the whole outcome of a tourney. I have high respect for nxl and nppl refs. I dont see how they do it.

One time during a game it was getting pretty late and it was prolly gonna be the last outdoor game of the day before we moved indoo, and I just saw this dude standing next to a bunker about 40 yeards away, and there were alot of noobs playing so I just though he was standing around so I started shooting and the dude ducks in, then I see a ref sheild pop out lol, I went up and apologized to him after the game
Back to the thread. Yes I will shot refs when thay are in my way

I own a field and spend allot of my time reffing and training new refs and then shouting at the refs. You did the right thing by pegging the ref. They should have had another ref on the other side of the field for that and even if it was in the middle the ref should have gotten their an hit the ground. Its hard reffing and you will make mistakes but you should always be in communication with the other refs and know how many payers are left and where they are.
Ive ref in some of the worst games out their. Players get mad at a call and they put a string on us. It sucks, ive reffed tournaments and been hit more times than most of the players on the field did...combined. You take a punishment as a ref you work your *** of running around during every game and not getting a rest in between. Ive spent whole days running and only getting a chance to take a drink of water when something catastrophic happens to some players maker when hes getting ready to come out on the field. You get screamed at by players and what kills you is that you cant scream back at them. You have to keep your cool and stick with your call. It really a tough job and when you play a game with some good refs you really appreciate it. So next time you see some kid screaming at the ref about his call walk over and tell the kid to chill out it only a game. The ref will appreciate it and when a refs happy the players are happy.
BTW any cheaters out their we see you wipe. We see you try to hide that shot with a superman dive. Oh and it just rubbed off the bunker huh? yeah and I suppose that your board is tournament legal too. Any good ref knows when something is up with a marker, every board has its tell allot of the time with ramping it has to do with the pitch (sound). If you have ever heard one you know what im talking about. So do us a favor if you want to cheat go play in a unregulated area with your friends and be un-safe. Id rather not have your business than have you pissing off my customers.

I would have popped the ref. They ought to know as players to not run between 2 players on opposing teams.

first time I ever played, a buddy of mine had been asked to help out a police academy instructor. his class was doing their finals, and they were doing house clearing. well once we get to the house, and get all set up, the instructor is wearing pretty much the same thing that all the students are, even tho my buddy had offered him a yellow jacket to mark him as a ref.
well, we have his students bunkered down behind the corner of a wall at the entrance of a hallway. got them pinned down so hard that they arent even putting their markers around to blindfire, cause my other buddy keeps popping their guns when they stick them out.
without any warning, the instructor comes walking around the corner, and with nothing to designate him as a non-com, we both light him up.
about as close as I've ever come to shooting a ref
edit- oooooooooops, I thought I was in the shooting the refs thread. SOWWY!

Man you have no idea how much that pisses me off to no end. I play at a feild where the refs are pretty good, but they can't be everywhere at everytime. I've seen people Ive hit in the mask wipe and not go out. Just call yourself out and don't cheat.
