98c sear

when i went out to shoot today, the first few shots were right on target, but then i started chopping and i had a couple double fires. ive had these chopping problems for awhile now, and im wondering if the double fires are hapening because my sear is bad. i want to know about how long it takes for a sear to wear out on a 98custom, ive had my gun for about a year now.

i was shooting PMI Polar Ice, everything is in my gun correctly facing the right direction, so dont ask me about my ball detent.

o yeah...could it be because my ball detent is worn down?

The sear can last a long time if you haven't done trigger mods. Some trigger mods cause less of the sear to contact the rear bolt causing faster wear on the sear and can result in double firing because the sear is not catching. I have had my 98 for over 5 years and the sear is still fine but again I have no trigger mods installed.

i havent done any trigger mods that make the sear catch less of the rear bolt.

What trigger mods have you done? It says in your sig that you have a modded trigger.

how old is the gun? the older it is, the more likely it is to die :D

i have done the pen spring and rear trigger stop, no messing with the sear

oh my b... humm... detent in properly?

perhaps it is the sear spring thats wearing out?

Well, I think the sear or sear spring is the right place to look for the double firing problems, Unfortunately its hard to diagnose further over the net. I would definitely check the sear for wear first though.

Is it double firing or double feeding? The detent wont cause it to burp or go full auto(double fire in this case). Maybe the rear bolt where the sear catches is worn.

i changed the sear spring a few months ago...so thats not it.

if the sear is worn, is there a way to tell to make sure?

calling tippmann is a last resort for me

no double feeds...just double firing

If the sear is worn the edge that catches the bolt will be rounded instead of having a sharp 90*edge. While your there you may as well check the bolt for wear also, again it will be rounded where it catches instead of a sharp edge.
