Just a few years ago, drop forwards were all the FAD- , but now i dont really see people using them, is it all about the longer gun now a days?:pinocch:

its more about more balanced guns. drops bring it in tighter but they tend to give markers a front-heavy feel.

There's nothing wrong with a little drop foward... I always thought placing the tank a little less than midway up the body of the gun is good for balance. Much prefered than having it stick out the back under your armpit like a stock.

The problem with drops is that they bring your tank down very low, so to shoot with proper form you have a very high profile. It is very hard to have good form if you're using a drop, and as Rodney Squires said: "Drops are the worst thing to happen to Paintball".

I've seen tons of players at my feilds with drop forwards. I personally like the way they place the tank, because otherwise I have to tuck it under my arm or else it is way out in front of me (hope that makes sense). IO agree however that they do make the marker unbalanced, but WE.

Good style is setting it between your shoulder and forearm.

I've played with a drop before, and without one. Drops do allow you to get a much tighter profile. Sure, it does make gun seem front-heavy, but lets be serious, with the adrenaline rush of the game- you won't even notice that the front of your gun is a little heavier.

Congratulations on being person number 8,326 to bring this up.
Drop can help out the balancing of a gun, but very rarely. Back when I had my Piranha, playing with a 20 oz tank sticking out of the back was a pain in the neck, b/c it was so freaking long. A good sized drop fixed that.
Now that I am running nitro, however, and have a shorter (and 3 times heavier), tank, I can't stand any drop at all.*
It depends a lot on the tank, but, in most cases, a drop forward is a stupid idea.
*I do have a mini drop on my Matrix, but its effect is negated, however, b/c I have a standard straight ASA on it.

It's all preference IMO. I've used both. I have a small drop on my Classic and it balances it perfect for me. I get a lot of grief for it too. "you newb...get a rail..." Whatever...I was playing when most of those people were still learning to pee standing up. On my Texas Storm though a rail works better. Form is important, but IMO, comfort is more so. So if a drop is more comfortable for you, use that. If not...something else.
I've been playing a loooong time and I've seen these fads come and go. When I first started playing it was all small/no drops. Then it HAD to be a drop forward, then it has to be a small/no drop, then a rail, back to drop, back to no drop..... There are +'s and -'s to each but nothing I've ever seen to make one type 100% better then any other. Again, all preference or the latest fad set by Companies or Pro's. GOTTA GOTTA have what the pro's use right?!

Well yeah dude....Rodney is ALWYAS right because Dynasty is like....the shizzle.
Rodney is an a**hat. Dynasty are all a**hats.
I don't listen to the pros when they say something, because more often than not, they're paid to say it, and don't care either way. That, and no pro will tell me what my personal preference is.

Its all personal preferance. Most people dont like em but I have 6 inch drop forward and love it. It all depends on the length of the gun and tank. Mine is good because tippmanns are very long in the first place and I use a 20oz tank. Preferance can change alot when you have an E-bladed cocker and a 47/4500. You dont need as big of a drop because the overall gun is much shorter in the first place. Anyone who says drops are stupid for everyone is just plain ignorant. Just my :twocents: .

i've got to disagree here. i played baseball with a guy who threw the ball in the strangest way i've ever seen. he kept his upper arm against his ribs and threw with his forearm and elbow while doing a one footed hop. he couldn't hit his target to save his life, and his range was pitiful. we tried to teach him how to throw a ball properly, but he refused to accept it because he was more comfortable with his way. he was benched most of the games. i was the same way. my throwing form was poor. when my coach showed me how to do it correctly, it felt very awkward, but i kept throwing it the same way and eventually got very good at it. it felt right after a few weeks. the moral of this story is: you can adapt to comfort, but proper form won't adapt to you.

I feel I need to step in here and clarify something...
Proper form is excessively important from a biomechanical standpoint. The rail/microdrop gives you that proper form by aligning the tendons, muscles and bones in as natural a way as possible. However, if speed is NOT a necessity, such as when shooting a pump or something of that nature, then comfort will become the biggest factor.

that's true. shooting a mech doesn't require proper form, because they don't shoot fast enough to warrant it. but it's definitely required for electropneumatics.

Hmm...
I dont agree with that...
If you take a marker without a good trigger frame a rail doesnt help much. Case in point ZGRIP VS INTELLAFRAME. A rail on a intellaframe will help...but it still will not be as comfortable as if you had it on a Zgrip. It depends on a few factors of the marker it is being used on. In some cases a drop (larger) brings better form then a rail.

Use whatever helps you play the best. I've played with a drop and it was whack. I switched to a CP rail and I found it very comfortable. I also found that I shot a lot faster with a rail too.
