A real simple question...
Is the bolt removable, say during a game? Or do you have to take it back to your car and disassemble it? In case you break paint.
nope you cannot take this gun apart on the feild.
yeah... you could take it apart on the field, but the ref would call you out in a tourny cause you had tools on the field.
It is not possible to take out the bolt in a game.

To do a simple dissasembly of the gun you have to take off the grip frame, oershell, pull out a few air tubes....and then you can unscrew the bolt from the body.

That is why almost all spool valve guns have good eyes

Ok I dont want to be off topic or anything, but isnt the ion an elctropneumatic (sp?) blow forward, not a spool valve?
It's kinda both...
It depends on which working definition of "spool valve" you are using.
For the time being... I'll refer to it as a blow forward spool valve, until there's an industry standard.

a little off topic, but whats the true defenition of electropneumatic?
being of or related to both electronic operations and pnuematic systems.
+=+
electronic - If you can't figure this out... then turn of the monitor and go read a good book.
pnuematic - using a gas operation, air assisted... example
+=+
An AEG air soft gun with batteries and an electronic motor is electronic.
A Green Gas powered air soft gun that uses the compressed green gas to cycle is pnuematic.
A paintball gun like the Ion or Impulse (etc.) uses electricity (electro...) to control the cycling operations of the pressureized air that propels the ball and cycles the marker (...pnuematic)
+=+
Spool Valve - a valve (tool/machine/component that controls the flow of a fluid) that has a spool doing the controling.
- Loosley this includes solenoids and 3-ways from 'cockers because there is a spool inside the valves.
- Very loosley this could even include every paintball gun and regulators etc.
- But the most common working definition requires that air operates the valve, wich allows air passageways to open or close.
note - The Ion seems to fit even into the stricter catagory, although it doesn' operating quite like other "spool valve guns".
Note - The Impulse, nerve, timmy, etc. are not spool valve guns because the valve is not opened directly by pnuematic energy. The pnuematic energy is first used to accelerat a hammer which is now kinetic energy, which then strikes the pin valve.
Blow forward - This is a gun that uses the same burst of air to move the bolt forward as it does to push the ball.
I hope that helps to clear things up.

The Ion isn't really field strip-able.. You must take the trigger frame off before being able to take off the polymer cover and then you'll be able to get into the gun's internals. It's quite a mission to do this in the middle of a speed ball or rec. game and I wouldn't recommend you to do so for obvious reasons. :D
