well I own a dm4, and my buddy got the nerve, I can almost keep up to him while hes on the highest rebound mode, and thats maybe with a slight bounce on my dm4. I found the trigger on the nerve a little hard to set it to my liking and almost left me relying on rebound to reach the same speeds as i shoot with the dm4, but thats me, I like my trigger to be a really light pull, and I couldnt manage to get that on the nerve. I can say the nerve is pretty comfortable to hold, lighter than the dm4, but the proto is supposed to be lighter as well. All really comes down to preference. The only way I think you could make this decision is to actually try both out.
and out of personal experience, Id say the hyper 2 is better. Im also not sure if the proto does this either, but I recieved a ballpoint hex key set, a mini rebuild kit and a full color instruction booklet with the dm4 and a wackload of lube, thats more than most companies even think to offer with their guns. Not much but it sure impressed me, espescially when a $2000 (can) alias, comes with a photocopied instruction book of a 2001 intimidator.

hmmm well out of expirience with my current marker the impulse which is something very similar to the nerve. The nerve claims a lot of things that im looking for in a gun such as good stock barrel comes stock with ramping modes that can be turned off to semi for tournments light weight and accyrate from sft technology. One thing the proto catches my eye it has no kick and that all matixes are accurate is also a very light gun and the new advantage speedy chip boards are very nice also and some people seem to prefer it over the nerve. Honestly I like the nerve's looks and features more but somone had told me they knew someone with both and they liked the proto much more. This guy was a gun wh*re too but honestly he might just be one of those smart parts haters or somthin. Oh and by the way you can adjust the trigger pull to any trigger on a impulse shocker or nerve to how light you want the pull to be if your worried its to strong of a pull. If a lot more people really start to tell me they like one gun over the other then i'll probably go with that one cause I'm to confused to think for myself lol.

yeah when you get your nerve if you you buy one it comes with lack of parts, no allen keys what so ever, i mean even spyders come with them! a photocopied instruction booklet, small amount of lube, one extra ball detent, and one of each kind of oring needed in the marker, a barrel condom, two stickers. Personally instead of the two stickers i would rather have more lube or even allen keys...
Also the nerve has very little kick, you can adjust the settings so it does not bother you
edit: also you posted you question in the nerve forum, you may receive biased opinions...
