Probably the best idea is to shoot the other guy before he can shoot you. :D
Actually a good strategy when in a shoot out 1 on 1 against another person is to remain outside of your bunker and keep pummeling your opponent's bunker with paint, keeping him pinned inside, and then run up and bunker him. It doesn't work if there are multiple opponents left though, because one of them is bound to shoot you if you remain out of your bunker.

What ive seen way too many times is as people are moving from a bunker to another spot/to bunker they stop firing...this for 1.)tells the opponents something is going on 2.)lets them have the ability to pop up and shoot you as your moving
my friend and I were the last left on our teams and having a shootout....i managed to keep his head in enough and just casually walked up to his bunker while still firing (at both sinds...very important!) leaned over the top and asked him to surrender....it will get laughs and get you something to talk about after the game while still ensuring the win

keep moving if you can and dont let the other guy move

if you both get to a unprotected area, create cover for your self
fall backwards onto your elbow pads which you should be wearing
then your a smaller target, and you can shoot them

snap shot him out, if you find that it is hard to hit him (or close) then move! dont feel like you are stuck in your bunker, the best thing you can do is throw some paint so he goes in then run and try to get a shot on him from the side, wait til pops out to shoot at where you were than snap shoot him out (or just post on him). what ever you do, don't just sit back in your bunker and hope he'll leave you alone, cause if you dont see him for a while, chances are he moved, or your about to be bunkered.

some people when they run you can hear "thud thud thud thud"
if you hear that, pretty good chance there either (a) coming at you, (b) out in the open, or (c) there foot went to sleep.
if its (a) or (b), dont just sit behind your bunker and let them come to get you. It's just a sport. It dont matter if your out. So just lean out the side and hose them up and down, you may get hit also, but hey you took one with you.
thats my concept anyways, and how I look at it. eye or an eye

yeah, snap shooting is the best thing to do. My team practices it every weekend, and it helps. (Try doing it for 2hrs straight, and then hockey practice the next day. It is not fun!)

Watch to see if your opponent keeps coming out of their bunker to fire in the same spot. If so, just keep yourself in a position to fire (don't duck back into your bunker), and the next time they come out, you know where they're going to be, and "SPLAT"...one elimination. This only works on newbies however...that haven't realized you should never pop out of the same spot in a bunker.

I'm pretty n00b at paintball, only played a half dozen times or so with friends but I was in a 1v1 with a friend who's played for like 4 years, it was actually like a 5v5 but he and i ended up dueling eachother on the other side of the field away from everyone else ( i tried flanking around, he followed )
anyways...we were playing in woods, and this time of year, all leaves are dead and on ground, so ANY time you move you can hear CRUNCH a mile away unless your deaf.
Now we dueled for like 10 minutes, when we started we were like, 200 feet away, I could barely see him as we moved diagonally toward eachother, eventually i was like, 40 feet away, we were both behind trees, with a big tree in the middle, we were both basically popping out taking shots (note: i got gogged eventually, heh)
what i did was though, i ran to the tree between us since it protected me since it was in his line of fire, so by the time the fight ended, we were behind trees, about 25ft away.
what SHOULD i have done? i mean, he did nail me in head finally after a long exchange of fire ( he did say i did pretty good all things considering ) i tend to go behind the tree, and pop out for looks and shots, i didn't just lay down and wait for him to show himself (which is why i got gogged...i was hoping it would go in my favor ) should i have tried to put alot of paint on his tree and try and turn the corner? remember, 25 feet away, random trees and leaves making lots of noise, if i kept solid cover on the tree would he been nailed trying to turn to get a look? or would he hae gotten me advancing?
all things considering though...i wasn't gonna win the fight from 25 feet, my gun was curving like a mofo and chopping balls (his was chopping...not curving so much...gotta love 20 degree weather with team colors)any tricks that could have helped me out?

I would have just stopped firing and hide behind my tree. eventually he'll get tired or bored and try to make a move on you. And if the leaves are as loud as you say then you would be able to hear him moving, and be able to pop out from behind your protective tree and peg him. Also if you have anti-fog lenses or thermal lenses and he doesn't, his mask will get fogged up and you'll be able to take him out more easily.

hmmmm.... prob. i would have just left the area and came from behind and flanked him.
or made it look like you were running back to your friends and then duck behind some bushes or a tree (i'm assuming you're in camo)
and then stay still and he will try to flank the group of ur friends but then you counter his flank with one of your own.
and i wouldn't have moved to the tree in the middle
figure out where u want him to be... and then run in the direction to where if he was gonna follow you... the only cover he would get was that tree you wanted him behind.

those woods are pretty nasty though...i mean, the 3 trees we were fighting around were the only decent trees around, you could see clearly in all directions for at least 150 ft because all leaves were down, and 90% of trees were too thin to use as cover.flanking around would have gotten nowhere cuase we would have just wasted more paint circling around trees, those 3 trees were the best in the area....i would've had to move in open for quite a while before i could flank around to a spot with decent cover....i didn't have camo, he did...but camo does nothing this time of year, i could see him clear as day...brown trees and brown leaves...you can tell camo clear as someone in all white

I've found in shoot outs it sometimes help to do something diffrent. People as we are are animals of habbit. If it works we keep doing it. I can count the number of times I've seen someone keep firing out of the same side of a bunker and at a predictable interval.
here is my story:
We were 3 2 we were down 1. I saw what the players were doing so instead of repeating what I was doing I timed their pop shots. It gave me just enough time to move from one bunker to the one next to me till I was on the other side of the field. Luckily they didn't know I was there because they were never out to see me move :). One shot and the first guy was out, 5 shot and the second guy was out. Finally the third realized I was there. We ended up winning.
So my point is think diffrently and innovate and the other guys will be clueless to what's going on. Also don't be afraid to be aggresive. I can't count the number of times I've seen the O $H-T face because they didn't see me coming and I popped em from the side. Remember to always think it's the most important rule. Paintball is as much a thinking game as a run out and shoot em up often people forget this, those people get shot.
