View Full Version : My Imp's too tall

I've got a heavily upgraded Impulse. The only thing thats wrong with it is its too dang big. I'm thinking about getting a Shocker or Freestyle so I can be more effective as a front player, since my Imp is just too unweildly. I've used smaller guns like Aliases and Freestyles before, and I can definately snap more accurately and quickly with a tighter set up...

But I really don't want to part with my baby. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to make it more maneuverable? I'm thinking about drilling out the bottom of the body a little bit so I can cut the tray down a few cm...has anyone heard of this? Anything I should look out for? Other suggestions?

Thanks.

well primarily i would say look out for ruining your sweet gun, but impulses happen to be a slightly taller marker. do you have a big drop or a nice comfy rail? do you have the stock sky scraper or a lower feedneck? that's really it besides major modifications.

buy an AIM frame or an I-frame. The AIM frame is a bit smaller though. it will shorten your impulse .5" and make the guns overal profile when shooting much, much, much smaller. it also helps the impulse drop a few pounds...

AIM frames can be found at www.buypb.com
I-frames can be found at www.ebay.com sold by "hswseller" (only)

Get a Q-Loader?

I know this is a wild suggestion, but it seems that everyone is parting with their Impulse and I don't want another one of the family to leave. I think I would cry. :bawling:

My Imp's 8 inches, what's yours?

do you want to get slapped?

i don't like the q-loader. good idea but not as practical in many ways. can you reload a q-loader in 5 seconds? and unless you are shooting over top your bunker, it's not that great. i will admit, no batteries is nice though

I better damn not be slapped because I suggested it as a wild idea...

Its also a good thing when you can't get hopper hits. I prefer that over no batteries.

Do you have a good aftermarket feedneck? My CCM feedneck took a lot of hight off of my Imp.

you can still get hit in the qloader. when i come out of a bunker, my hopper is tilted in so i don't really get hit there. my style i would probably get hit more in a qloader because i press my barrel into the bunker but the qloader would stick out a little, and is a nice hard target for someone hammering your bunker when you are trying to shoot.

but hey i'm just weird sometimes
i think people care too much about their gun being small nowadays. my imp is big and i'm proud of it. still rocks the house

I've got a NDZ no-rize and a unimount. I've tried drops of all different lengths, even an Endo style one, but they didn't feel right.

I was thinking about the Adrenalin frame. The only thing thats really holding me back from getting it is I heard that you can't use a max-flo vert reg with it. $120 or whatever isn't too bad, but the $100 bucks I'd spend on a regulator (and of course I'd have to buy the expensive kind :/ ) on top of that is too much.

Also I like the I-frame, but the new one feels like it actually makes the gun taller overall...I've been looking for a version 1 i-frame, but I'm not having much luck.

As for Q-Loaders: Just cuz I'm a newb here doesn't mean you can "censored: with me :p

well it sounds like your setup is fairly short as it is. maybe a new frame. and the adrenaline impulse has the adrenaline frame and a max flo vert reg so that would work and would make your gun a little shorter. to tell the truth, a new reg would make your gun shorter. i mean the vert maxflo is pretty big. you could also get a smaller tank like 45/4500, assuming you don't have one, maybe get a new body, shorter barrel, shorter lpr or front cap, they all make it a little smaller. you said you don't want a new reg, but for size and weight that could make a big differance. i don't know what you have and haven't tried, but there are alot of ways to make an impy relatively small.

and yeah. qloader= the devil. at least i think so.

Well I'm pretty sure that the Adrenalin body has the asa mount located further forward than regular Imps, which allows the max-flo to fit with that frame.

I'm not really worried about length or weight in general, its really only the height that I'm trying to fix. Part of this is because I genuinely need a tighter setup, part of it is the fact that I think that using a tray on an otherwise excellent gun is the stupidest idea ever. My friend uses a Freestyle with a 90ci uni mounted tank and a 16 inch barrel, and I can snap better with that than with my tall Imp.

If you want to buy an AIM frame, which i highly advise, instead of getting a new reg, just buy a 45* VA with the frame-they're like 30$.

actually if you have a Ai frame even with a AI vertical adaptor a small maxflo will still hit the trigger guard.....sucks to be me:P

yeh, it doesn't matter what kind of VA you have with the AI, or AIM frame, if it's a 90*, or straight, design. you will either have to buy a new reg, or a 15*, or angled, VA.

Do any other regs not fit?

toothpastedog

some centerflag regs don't fit, and some pps regs don't fit, but other than that, all regs fit. you can just buy a guage adapter, or a reg extender and screw it on to the top of any reg, maxflo included, and then it will work with a 90*, straight, VA and a AIM/AI frame-but then again, this will make the reg really tall.
