I've read of people doing this but i cant remember what it will do.
What happens if i tape all porting on my barrel?
Whats the benefit of doing this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

By covering up porting in your barrel you would increase your gas efficiency. However, you can also expect an increase in the noise your gun makes.

I wouldn't cover up holes at the muzzle of your barrel, that wouldn't really affect your barrel, but if there is alot of porting in the first 8in or so of your barrel it might be worth it.

just do it! tape up your barrel, come back here and tell us your discovery!

Tape you rporting only if it is raining! 'cause rain would go inside the barrel and deviate the ball when fired.
Porting is patented by Smart parts c'ause it helps lowering unecessary air disturbance behind the ball.

Porting is not really welcome with very low pressure gun....

dude dont tape them. thats stupid that will make your gun louder, less accurate and less spin. the porting allows the ball to have spin and taping it would take that ability away in which case you decrease distance

I have to disagree with you Impymaster. Porting will make your balls spin, but they will probably stop before they leave the barrel anyway. The paint in them moves forward inside the shell, which causes friction and stops most of the spinning and it's positive effects. If you tape up the porting on your gun it will be louder, but it will be more efficient, and shouldn't be much less accurate if at all. Porting just doesn't put all that much force on the ball.

Interesting theory. Louder? Yes. Less accurate? Nonesense. If that were true, how do you explain the Lapco Bigshot & Autospirit? They're some of the most accurate barrels you can buy, and have almost no porting.

Taping your barrel will make it louder, more efficient, and probably a bit harder to clean cause the paint will collect in the ports on the inside if you break or chop.

Try it out. If you don't like it, take it off. Let us know the results though.
