just get the normal ceramic
and it depends what position u play in speed ball, and if you play woods ball.
14 in is right in the middle of the 12 and 16
so if you get the 14 you should be able to play everything

get the kit, 30 more dollars and you get three extra barrels. http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/EasyAskSearch-Start;sid=EDeCBF5rU1mCdhxTkxNCrFTNtXc32PHEYUI=?sea rchType=USERSEARCH&searchTerm=j%26j+edge

the only advantage that the full tilt has over the ceramic, is that its a two-piece. meaning, that you could change the tips to make the barrel longer or shorter. or if you have two markers, each of them with J&J backs on them that you could swap the tips between the two guns.
other than that, the price doesnt make up for the difference in them, because both of them only are available in the same bore.
also, for the price of an extra tip, you'd be spending about the same amount of cash for an edge kit, which comes with several different bore backs.
so for the cost, I'd say get the regular one piece. if you're looking for being able to change the bores to match the paint you are using, go with the edge kits.
edit- and I gotta back Yip up on his comment, 14 inches is about the best. The added length doesnt help accuracy.

and $20 after that you could get a UL.
I'd personally buy a ceramic or save for something better, like a Dye Ultralight.

ugh...not liking the sound of that. it was rough? bumpy? gritty?
most of them that I've seen were basically smooth.
edit- sounds like you outta take it back. :(

do you mean like its kind of dusty? one that a friend of mine has, feels like that, like its kinda dusty. is it kind of a matte black color? if so, just from the sound of it, and not being able to see it, I'd say thats normal. but I cant say for sure, not being able to see it.

ok, yeah. when you first posted about that, I thought maybe it was blemished or chipped or something like that.
I've gotten so used to it, that I forget that they arent perfectly smooth. (sorry about that)
but yeah, thats fairly common for a lot of them to have that texture and color :)
NP :) Hope that it serves you well :)
