How do flatline barrels compare to other high priced barrels, like a boomstick?

Before you go buy a flatline you might want to check out how to make any barrel into a flatline at www.m98center.com and all you need is a piece of tape! It is kinda cool and it does work but not as good as the real flatline of course!

If you read the reviews on the flatline there are very few that actually are negative ones. Why? It's usually because these people are experiencing balls breaking with basically every shot. This is because of the owner improperly installing the barrel. I've been using a flatline for about a year now and it does wonders. Once you install it correctly its really cool! I get some wierd looks when i go onto the field too. I don't use the shroud so you can see the barrel and how it curves. People ask me why its bent and I explain to em the whole backspin schpeel. But once they see the distance i get with it they don't really know what to say. I'd go with the flatline.

basically any barrel is more accurate than a flatline. the way it works makes accuracy a hard case.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. The flatlines accuaracy isn't beatin by any other barrel, especially at 250-300ft. Any other barrel would have quite a hard time making the paintball go that far in the first place; with the exception of longballing. Saying that ANY OTHER barrel is more accurate than the flatline is a false statement; it all depends on the distance your talking about too. Take for example, a target that's... lets say.. 250 - 300ft away. Shooting the flatline, the paintballs would have a pretty easy time hitting the target. Now with any other barrel shoot, the paintball wouldn't make it to the target, let alone near. Where any other barrels paintballs would be rolling to a stop, the flatlines would only be beginning to descend. Again, check out the reviews. :)

Flatline will out distance any other barrel
Setup correctly it will be as accurate as any other barrel sort distance.
At long ranges the accuracy is still pretty good
at extreem ranges the ball will wonder a bit.
The barrel needs to be well kept. I found in mine that it needs a good cleaning after every day i take it out. It seems to get a build up in the barrel (Paint ball shells being rubbed off ??) it this is not removed the barrel will not get a constant back spin.
Constancy is the main ingredient in the accuracy.
velosity needs to be 270-290 fps to ballance back spin against lift.
Too much and you balls will lift then curve.
Too little and back spin seems to wear off and start to curve.
Once you have the right settings the balls float along and almost always break.
Great barrel for playing back field with.
p.s. use right paint i use diablo midnight and yet to have a break in the barrel :)

I copied this from the how-to section of M98center.com
I was wondering if anyone has done this and what are the results?
"I was thinking about what I could do with a stock barrel once and i figured out how to make it a flatline barrel (or close to it). It is the simplest modification and also the cheapest. First, screw the barrel all the way in and mark where the top of the barrel is. (permanent marker should do the trick) Then, after removing the barrel, take a piece of regular masking tape(preferably 1/2 to 1 inch, 2-4 inches long) and lay it on the inside top of the barrel at the end where it is threaded. Make sure that about 1/2 inch of tape is partially coming out over the threads. Also be sure that it is on the very top and that it is straight without wrinkles. How it works: The masking tape on top creates friction, causing backspin (same principles as flatline system). If you hold the gun sideways, you should be able to curve the balls around trees or bunkers, or upside down over the tops of bunkers.(that would only work with electric feed) Im a pretty smart kid huh?!?! Tips: I would reccomend smaller bore paint, but experiment and see what works. I've only tried this with a stock barrel, but experiment with others (obviously not rifled barrels though). you may need to replace tape periodically, just make sure you don't leave any tape adhesive if you take it off. EMAIL ME with results, especially tell me how it works with expansion chambers, nitrogen, different bolts, etc. SOCCRNATE5@aol.com"

That is exactly what I was talking about above but I haven't got around to trying it yet. I have been told by a few people that it is very affective but does fall a little short of the real Flatline. But with the price of the tape vs the price of the barrel I would say the tape would be very cost effective over the flatline!
