my friend is eventually gettin a 98custom and was GOINIG to get the flatline but got dissuaded. and now wants the 16" dye ultra lite. i keep sayin, GET THE FLATLINE!! if ur gonna spend $100 on a 98c barrel, u might as well go 4 the flatline! he says impossible to squuegee, i say, flip open the feed, and stick a push through!
so what should he get the DYE Ultralite 16" or the GTA flatline??
thanks

How 'bout: neither. I would personally go with the DYE Ultralite myself, but DEFINITELY not in a 16" length! Get the smallest length possible, I think it's like 12" or something. Or, get the Armson Stealth, which adds range as well 'cause of rifling, in 13 inch. ORRRRRR, if your friend plays speedball the most, get a CP One- or Two-Piece in a 10" length. But, if he plays woods the most, go with the Stealth. All of these barrels cost less than the Ultralite, and are better in some ways.

By the way, the reason I'm against 16" barrels is because the Tippy 98 is so dang long that it is just unwieldly with anything more than 12 or 13". Plus, even with a shorter 'gun like a 'Cocker or a Spyder, there is no point to the extra length, because it just slows the ball down past 14".

Ok.... that's a tricky question. I own both (Ultralite is 14"). I love the flatline. Unfortunately it is not a good winter barrel (coupled with the cold making the balls brittle, the already small bore causes every ball to break. In the spring, summer, and fall, though, It is great.) So If he only has enough money for one I suggest the ultralite. When he gets money for another, get a flatline. I miss my flatline! I almost cried when I found out the reason I was chopping paint left and right (all of a sudden a few weeks ago when it got real cold here in NC) was cause it wasnt a good winter barrel. so I got an ultralite for the winter. But I plan on going right back to the good ol' flatline.

ive noticed that about tippmanns, they are paintsensitive, but that is good because its like a car only designed for premium gas. im givin my tippmann the best paint, and my car the best gas. i'll tell him.

yah. I only use proball platinum. For only $10 more per case, its well worth the money...
