you could. If paint gets on the inside of the barrel through the ported holes than your screwed.

Leave it to the professionals.
You'll regret doing that. It'll start chipping and you'll really regret it if it starts blistering. Paintball guns weren't meant to be painted.
Think.... Powdercoat.

Actually, the ION was one of the first guns ever to be powdercoated, all other have always been annodized.

Ever look at some of those nice highend guns, for example... a proto. Those things come powdercoated, I believe. That's why there's different types of coats you can get. Like, my favorite the clear coat.

Can you powder coat over existing paint. Because they do have to bake the gun, its a part of the process of powder coating.
Or do it yourself click thee (http://www.ottersccustoms.com/paint.html)

Paint's easy to take off, all you need is some paint remover. I'd just send it off to get it powdercoated. Some carshops and motorcycle shops do it. It's not just paintball that uses this stuff.

No, no, powder's the dull stuff and anno's the shiney stuff. I think I know what I know I'm thinking of what I know. For example, the new Angel G7 is a powdercoat while the new Ripper is an Anno.
Wait... there's a dust anno? Ehh... Never knew.
