Secure your equipment in cases and check your bags. If they ask, it's sports equipment. If they ask what kind, tell the truth... don't lie or be evasive, unless you like jail. Airline security won't ask twice... they don't have time to play games. Have some magazines handy if they are unfamiliar with the sport. EMPTY your tanks of ALL AIR. Don't even think of carrying pressurized air tanks on an airplane... ever. They may not even let empty ones on... they have the right to confiscate them if they choose. May be safer to ship air gear by FedEx or something.

Now, most importantly:

DO NOT even attempt to take your marker as carry-on. You'll be in hand-cuffs so fast it'll make your head spin. The cops, and possibly the FBI don't screw around anymore... and they have REAL guns, with REAL bullets!

Don't screw with these people. There are lots of people around that you can mess with. Airline security, customs, and the FBI are not them.

I fly fairly regularly and I can assure you that from now on you'll never be allowed to carry on a paintball gun, but they probably will let you check it through the baggage claim. I recommend checking with your airline company before going to the airport to see what other rule changes may have been made since 9/11. As for CO2 and N2 bottles, some airlines won't even let you check in an empty one, because they are afraid of what could be in it.
