I have a tippmann 98 custom and I want a faster gun what gun should I buy a tippmann a5 with an e grip new barral and compressed air. Or should I get the new pro e and compressed air and a oddesy halo tsa backman hopper. Or should I get an smart parts ion. I play both speedball and woodsball.

for speedball
ion > tippmann (any)
also bko/b2k4/b2k5 > tippmann (any)

then its just more preference of icd to smart parts and whats available to you.

Would the ion be any good for woodsball.

not really, it's not a "rugged" gun. go with the A5.

If you want ruggedness and speed for both woods and speedball go with an automag rt ule

What about the pro e.

actually the Ions composite shell is very strong. I think it would be fine for woodsball.

And try not to limit yourself to tippmanns if you want speed. Tippmanns are great guns, but just not really sought after for their ROF.

The pro-e you say?

personally ion, bko, automag, a5-egrip > pro-E

your better off getting an ebolt for your current 98 then selling it for a pro e, and i agree with yak, there nothing wrong with the ion for woodsball, the powder coating and polymere shell make it so you don't have to worry about scrapes caused by the elements

Can you field strip the ion. And can you play in the rain with it. Can you play in the rain with an a5 and e grip. Cause I live where it rains alot, I dont usaully go when its raining out but sometimes it just starts to rain. So would rain reck an e grip or an ion.

Playing in the rain will not cause a problem with the Ion or most other electronic markers. I've seen some e-trigger Spyders have problems with moisture but I've playing in heavy rain 4-5 times with my Impulse with no problems. You can field strip an Ion about as easily as you can field strip a 98 but there really isn't much to an Ion and you probably won't ever need to field strip it. The main problem I have with electronic markers is when I get shot in the trigger. The paint will increase the friction on the trigger and sometimes it will start sticking. It takes about 2 min to fix but it can be annoying.
