hi, I was wondering if you guys know where I could buy some portable (large mats, folding, ext.) astroturf. I realize there are alot of websites selling astroturf, but I've searched and haven't found any sites with solid prices per sqaure foot. I'm looking to start a paintball field and was also wondering what the common players pefers as his flooring on his "dream" field. thanks

The Lowes and Home Depot near me sells it, just go hit up your local Hardware store.

I like carpetting. If you dont clean it it gets REALLY slick and fun as hell to slide and dive on. But that's just me.

The only downfall is that if you let it get TOO slick like Rex Plex you can trip and go flying off the break. I slipped off the break once and slid headfirst INTO the snake and had 1/2 the team laughing at me.

Yeah, use carpet, then wax it real good. Put a sign up that says "Kleats required".

maybe, I think I will use some sort of astroturf, after its tinted with paint goo it will definatley be a little more slippery to slide behind bunkers, I just played at a field with astrofturf today and I thought it was perfect

Definitely get padding, people like the use of their knees.
Isn't astroturf really expensive? Well the good kind?
Id suggest getting those fake grass rolls that you can buy cheaply, though youd have to keep 'em down somehow.

I like dirt as the ground for my fields. It's relatively soft (in a dirt kind of way) and you don't have to clean it.

which kinda dirt? cuz theres a lot of different types of dirt. loam would be great to play on, but out here in vegas we have what is known as hardpack. its sharp, dry, dusty, hard, and unforgiving. it tears the hell out of all your clothes too. very nasty stuff to play on.
*sigh* what i wouldn't give for some astroturf down at the sports park:|

That depends on what's underneath, and how it's done. One of my local fields, (which now no longer exists), just put dirt on a cement floor. Over time, the dirt just got bunched up by the bunkers, and a lot of it left via the shoes and clothing of the players. Plus, it got mixed with paint, (duh), and towards the end the floor was slicker than snot on a doorknob.

I'm talking about SC Village dirt. It's pretty nice. It doesn't bunch up to reveal a cement floor because it's outdoors. It's relatively soft stuff and won't tear up your jeans too much. The only problem I can think of is that it smells like cow manure when it rains and there are puddles on the fields.

You mean like the stuff they have on mini golf courses?

I think that stuff is a rubber ground cover type material.

thanks for the suggestions but my mind is decided, does anyone know where to get some astroturf as cheap as possible? Just to let you guys know I am looking so know one gets irritated by laziness.

ya i play at SC and there dirt is great. out in the dairies so its nice and fertile and soft. Good stuff;)
then i played at SC's turf courses and as fun as airball is, I didnt care much for the turf. u slip like a mad man on that stuff. Im better than my friends and we went to play on turf. we ended up playin Circle Factory and being the better of the 5 of us, i was the only one movin up. I ran and slid on the break which was scary as hell. i knew i was toast..... and we were...... So ya wear cleats on turf, it'll probably help;)
