take advantage of there week side by flanking them. make sure that you don't loose the side that is being flanked reinforce the side being blank. maybe set up ambushes.

move back so they are in front of you and not directly on your side

Most of the strategy discussed here is only effectively emplyed in a large game or scenario, where there is a relativley large plot of land to work with, but, the stragy discussed herein can be applied to a standard rec field. (please excuse my tendency to go on and on about certain things, and my crappy diagrams.)

NEVER retreat, that is what flanking is to do. Flanking is useful in pushing out an entrenched defending force, it helps give th opposing force an edge. Even if you are fully barricaded to the front, it doesnt matter once the opposing force sweeps to your flanks and gets an angle on your weak side, the side of your bunker. Your only logical choice would be to fall back to another bunker, thus placing your opponet to your front and regaining the advantage, the shortcoming of this tactic is that on a field, you dont have infinite land to fall back on, plus, when you retreat, you lose the ground that you expended paint and men to gain. Retreating allows the opponents more land to work with,a dn thus consolidate players for a push against you. The most viable tactic against flanking is to send a distractoinary group to keep the flanking group pinned down.

-------------------------OOOOOOOOO opposing force (a)
---------------------------OOOOOO

--------------------------------------------------OOOOO flanking force (b)
----------------------------------------------------OOO

--------------------------XXXXXXXXXX your force (c)
-----------------------XXXXXXXXXXXXX

as you can see, the flanking force b is about to move in to exploit your force (c). This is your chance, notice how the opposing force is weakened because it has allocated many men tot eh flanking force (b). What you want to do next is send a small diversionary group to the flank. This force should spread out over the flank, and make sure that the flankers do not get thru. This diversionary force can also be referred to as a containment force.

-------------------------OOOOOOOOOO
---------------------------OOOOOOOO

-----------------------------------------------OOOOO
-------------------------------------------------OO
---------------------------------------------X X X X X
-----------------------------XXXXX
--------------------------XXXXXXXXXX

You woujld then want to consolidate your main force to push forward, until you are in close with the main opposing force. You will then cut accross to the right, and flank the opposing forces right flank.

------------------------------OOOOOOOOOOO flanked enemy (a)
---------------------------------------OOOOOOxxxx
--------------------------------------------xxxXX
------------------------------------XXXXXXXXXXXXXX Main force (b)
----------------------------------------------X OOOOX
-----------------------------------------------X OOOX enemy flankers(c)
------------------------------------------------XXXXXX Containment (d)

as you can see, you have effectively used your enemies momentum agaisnt them. They allocated much of their force to flank you, and in turn you have sent out an all out push to surround the flanking force, and in turn, you have flanked the enemy!!!!!!!! since the enemy flankers are now surrounded on all sides, they are easily wiped out. The enemy main force has been surrounded by your force, and since it is very outnumbered, and surrounded, it is just a matter of time before it is wiped out.

i hoper this has helped.
