say i have like $700 to spend on a full new setup, and I am a back to mid player, and I need a new gun tank and barrel, what should I get?
I have never played a tourney, and am looking for my first tourney gun. I am currently using a spyder TL plus, but that just won't cut it in a tourney.
Help me out if u can guys, thanks

Cockers aren't as bad as everyone says. How about this for a setup:
Impy with vertical Maxflow $450
12 vlt revy (that's a given) $55
Nitro tank or SP Anti-siphon co2 around $50 for the co2/$70+ for nitro
Dye, Lapco, or SP barrel, heck maybe even a CP $50+
Blade trigger $20
That is $645 (with the $70 nitro tank and $50 barrel)
I would go with a bigger tank like a 68/30 or 68/45. $120+
In fact, I am looking at a similar set-up so some of my suggestions you might not agree with.
You could check ebay if you want the cheapest prices. My prices are not exact and are just off the top of my head.

hey i would get a shocker for 569 that comes with good barrel
( smart parts ALL AMERICAN)
and a shocker also runs great on CO2:crazy:
you could get a powerfeed mag $289
boomstick $110
12v with x-board $65
88 3000 crossfire tank $179
Thats like $643
that just an example.
mag are very reliable, and very fast

I would agree with the impulse.
do you already have revvy?
here would be my set up for you:
stock impulse (vert reg optional... I personally feel that the bottom maxflow w/ gas thru grip gives for the best balance)
68/4500 nitro tank... not worth buying anything smaller... especially for tournaments.
ricochet 2k
(for best prices, I would check out e-paintballoutlet.com
FOM has the best impulse prices)
I shoot matrix... will soon probably be switching to 2k2 LCD..... my dad shoots impy... it shoots darts... I cant stress how freaking accurate that marker is.
I would say for your price range, look into that.
cant beat it.

I would get the impy, vertical reg, add a voodoo full flow, twist lock high rise, new barrel, and a cheap nitro screw in. Get it at e-paintballoutlet.com good prices, good work.

if u really want electro and are mid to back get new shocker,
there very nice guns, tiny pull and dead on accurate.
the new ones are light and compact for a shocker.
or get a cocker.they are not tricky at all.just dont screw with it unless you know about it.they are by far very accurate and a good r.of.

well i am in the same process as you and i had a tl+ and felt that it justw ouldnt cut it in tourny play. well i am a front player and have been advised to get an impulse...they have one of the best regs on them(maxflo) and have a SM progressive barrel which is decent. You can run co2 have no probs. but of course nitro is better. The same thing goes for the shocker except it has an all american barrel and seems to be a better gun for back players. the impy is smaller though so that is why i m going with it. Hope that helped...if you have any questions my email is ccrnnr9@aol.com

the only reason shockers are considered for back players, is due to size.
they arent even that big any more.
I know many front players who shoot shockers fine.
I know many back players (a lot of them) who shoot angels.
impys are a good in-between marker.
they are fast, accurate, lp, easy to maintain, good customer support, easy to operate, etc.
I say get impy, or timmy.
timmys have come down in price and would also be a good marker for under 700.
you can still afford a cheap nitro tank and hopper.

For 700 you could get a very nice cocker set up....they are not half the nightmare people make them out to be! Just ask yourself this question ( & answer ) and you will be fine...
1) Does it work? Yes
Then LEAVE IT ALONE !
half the problems with cockers are with people who think they can tune it just a little bit more to squeeze that extra ounce of preformance out of it and they mess it up!
you could get a stock cocker, and trick it out to hell, an STO and have about 100 dollars or so left over to buy somthing else ( like an HPA tank )
Or you could get a black magic autococker which is almost exactly 700 dollars.
All of these can be found at www.paintballgear.com

I agree with these guys they know what they're talking about. Go w/ the imp. it's an awesome deal and with a blade trigger it is definately a competitor. I am looking into one myself and plan on getting one. If you don't have access to nitro they will run great on an antisiphon-on/off tank. It also comes with one of the best regulators in paintball, the maxflow and can be purchased either horizontal, or my personal preference vertical.

But impulses are so ugly. You consider used?
you could get a used Matrix, make it LP, and get a tank and a Lapco Bigshot...
Dont know how much that would cost exactly, depends on how cheep you could get the matrix, but that would be sweet and look waaaay better than an impulse, specially if you got the pewter grips :)

If I were you, Id get a Cocker. Heres why:
-Smooth Trigger Pull
-Accurate
-Good ROF
-PROVEN effective
- Super-Upgradable (a big fat plus)
-Not too expensive
-No battery problems
-Play in the rain
-Efficient
-Hella good looks
-Did I say accurate?
Anyways, you get my point. I agree with the guy that said go to E-Bay, cuz Ive seen Custom Cockers go for under 500 there, plus you can get brand new accessories, like barrels and frames, for really cheap.
My set-up you see below cost me 550 on Ebay, and it works like a charm, for real. That was for the gun, all barrels, tank, and a scuba tank, too. Thats a SCREAMIN' deal for a 850 dollar gun.
Well, hope this helped.

Impulses are great guns, beautifully balanced, very fast, and pretty light. Because you play back you may also want to check out a shocker, its like the impulse, but its more tailored to those who play back.
