i dont know what it is. i chronoed yesterday at the field all day and it kept reading 275,280 and 297. right now im running a 68ci 4,500 psi tank from crossfire and i dont know why it would be this inconsistent....if anyone can help me thanx...

Incossent can be a LOT of different factors. one that is VERY common having lube on the hammer. there should be NO lube on the hammer, the back of the hammer, the bumper disk, or the front of the hammer assembly.

The paint you are shooting can be a huge factor. I ahve tried to chrno with paints like Proball and Team colors and had 30 fps swings-- cleaned out the barrel, and put Marbleizer in it and and had 5 fps swings in the same gun with no other changes.

Of course make sure the bolt is lubed but dont let the lube get on the front of the bolt.

Makesure your barrel is CLEAN. a squgee is just an "on the field-get out of a jam" tool. You should scrub the barrel clean with warn water and dish soap- then dry iwth a wadded up paper towel.

Beyond that, watch a few other fokes chrno-- it is not uncommon to have CHRNOs that verry a lot--and you will se that if everyone taht comes up there is getting big changes in veloicity too.

hope this helps

what FOM is talking about is grease on the hammer itself. it is true that you are supposed to lube up the hammer piston and the o-ring on the hammer (as well as working some grease into the hammers air passages), but you should not have any grease on the hammer itself or the front part of the hammer assembly.

hope this helps :)

do any of you think that maybe the inconsistency might come from a bad adjustment to the dwell setting i have? i guess you can say i didnt really adjust it to the way it says to do on the Impulse FAQ. i had a ref do it at the field i was at. when i shot it made a weird noise and he said my gun was set on "blow back". he also said i needed to set the dwell. he didnt use a chrono or anything he just set it till the noise sounded different....well i dunno shed some light on this and correct me if im wrong on my theory.

it is my understanding that it could not be the dwell, because the dwell is just the time the valve stays open. If the dwell pot switch is not set right, you will lose gas efficiency, and possibly experience some blow back, but i don't think it would lead to the wide inconsistency you are experiencing here. If I were you, i'd take the gun apart, clean and re-lube everything, then chrono the gun again, (making sure to use some nice paint-either buy or bum off friends ;) ) and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, i would suggest going to www.smartparts.com, going into "support" and following their instructions for regulator cleaning. But hey-I'm not a tech or anything-so i could be wrong.

good luck! :)

OK-let me back up then

What pressure are you shooting at to get these veloicites?

You SHOULD be shooting at around 180 psi. If you are not, set the reg to 180 and adjust the dwell until you are around 280 fps.

Dwell normaly won't cause the speeds to jump around- but knoing that your dwell is almost certanly set way to high, make sure you adjust that the next time you have accsess to the chrno.

Re Read what I said about the greese on teh hammer, bumper, and front of hammer assembly-- NO GREESE on these parts or you will get widly varing speeds
