ION.
Newer, smaller, lighter, cheaper, spool valve design for very smooth shooting, interchangable shells so you can beat it up and then change the shell, comes with ramp modes, etc.

Yup, Imps are very heavy and very tall. IONs are very light and are very small, very similar in size to a Shocker. With the $40 you save you can buy a CCM No Pro Clamping low rise or the clamping rise of your choice.

have you shot a rat impulse and an ion, that would be the first step. get which ever feels better to you, if you still cant decide, think if you want a smaller lighter marker or a faster one, how fast can you pull? if its less than 17bps then speed isnt an issue here. just consider the options and the best advice you will get is to try them out first.

Impulse, the ions are noob guns, anyone who says differently if full of ****.
They shoot horribly, they are lighter/smaller but the only time they shoot fast is on rebound which is pretty noobie and not tounrey legal, plus the impulse looks 15x better, and wont break on you.

Every person that has an Imp at my field is a noob in my eyes. Don't make statements like that, it makes you look dumb.
They shoot horribly, they are lighter/smaller but the only time they shoot fast is on rebound which is pretty noobie and not tounrey legal, plus the impulse looks 15x better, and wont break on you.
If Rebound/Ramp modes are "noobie", I guess the NXL and CFOA is full of noobies. If you set the trigger right on an ION, it will shoot fast unless you just absolutely hate the pull. If a big tall brick of aluminum looks better than an ION to you, that's great, but that's your opinion. Wow, you say an Imp won't break on you? I guarantee it will if it's not properly maintained, I've seen plenty of them do it. But so will almost every other gun on the market.
The bottom line is that Imps are tall, heavy, overpriced, and outdated. Their resale is going nowhere but down, they very often have problems with FSDO, and they haven't been produced for months now. They were great guns a few years ago, but times change. SP kept trying to market the Imp as an awesome marker, but they soon realized that good marketing isn't everything, at some point your product needs substance.

I hope I'm not a noob Sto if I ever visit your field. I guess I would choose the Ion because it will hold its resale unlike the rat Impulse. Otherwise, I would've picked the Imp. An up'd Imp like the rat Impulse will no doubt outshoot the Ion, but the kick and feel is much different.
It's true that Impulses are tall, heavy and outdated. Take it from me, I own the world's illest Impulse and if I was in your position, I would take the Ion.

This is a RAT impulse with WAS, it's quiter, faster, and less kick then an ion, more accurate, consistant.
it's all out better performer other then weight and size.

Word - I wasn't making a statement against Imp owners, only the players at my field that own them.
Toxic - I know what a Rat looks like, my teammate had one around a year ago. I've shot all kinds of Imps. Stock, Strange, Nasty, Rat, etc. You're basing your choice wayyyyy too much on looks. The DMC is made mostly out of composite material, does that mean that it's a bad marker? Stop talking about how the ION uses plastic shells and talk about performance.
This is a RAT impulse with WAS, it's quiter, faster, and less kick then an ion, more accurate, consistant.
Quieter - I don't even know if it is, but that's rediculous to argue that he should get one over an ION because it's quieter. The Egos that XSV shoots are as loud as Spyders, but they will rip just like any other high end marker out there.
Faster - The ION is capped at 17, and comes with auto and rebound mode. If you can shoot over 17 bps without ramp or bounce on a Rat, you have some fast fingers. Just to be nice, I'll give this one to you.
Less Kick - Are you joking? ION's are spool valve markers, meaning they shoot similar to a Matrix. Matrixes are known for having little to no kick. I'm starting to doubt that you've shot an ION...
More Accurate - If the ION had the stock barrel, you're probably right. But he will be getting a used gun with a used barrel, so if he gets an ION for cheaper than the Rat, since money is not a problem, a nice barrel won't be hard to get.
More Consistant - Honestly, I haven't had much experience with chronoing an ION. What I do know is that Maxflos are very overhyped and overpriced regs, and that they go through o-rings like crazy. I would never shoot a gun with a Maxflo on it. Therefore, that point is moot, because you should put a new reg on each marker anyway.
BOTTOM LINE - The ION weighs 2.2 pounds, significantly lighter than the Imp. The Imp is much taller than the ION, giving you a higher profile. The Imp he wants to buy is used, he doesn't know what the previous owner has done to it or if it's been taken care of, he could get a new ION for less money. Imps already have crappy resale, and they haven't been produced for a good while now. If he keeps it for a while and then wants to sell it, he's going to have a very hard time.

Shoot both of the guns and make your decision based on feel. Since both of them are about the same price you should make your decision based on this, and whether or not the rat has been taken care of properly.

Moot Point...Its not something I would care about either.

True.

Very True.

Max-flows eat o-rings for breakfast and I've never seen them more consistant +-6. If the Rat Imp has no tapeworm, you risk getting severe FSDO...That's a constant reminder...Accuracy and Consistancy are tied together and shouldn't be in different categories.

Definately an Ion. I HATE THEM. But a marker that has a spool valve has to be the nicest feeling marker ever when fired. No kick like STO said.

My friend used an Ion for a game and said it is super light and fast. Rat Impulse I really havent heard much about but they Ion is cheaper and probably the best deal here.

The Ion will always be lighter, smaller, and have smoother operation than the Imp. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles on it, but with some upgrades it will be a much better gun. Also, new Ion's come stock with a QEV fitting
Anyways, Rat imp may be slightly better stock, but I'd still get the Ion over it because the Ion has infinetely more potential.

Preference
If i had the money i would have gotten the Rat impulse. This is because i live a couple of blocks from Michigan Paintball Outlet the people that invented them. They are great guns. I heard they eat air. I have an ION but it really hasn't shown its reliability (just because it is new). That is why i lean toward the Rat.

There have been no problems reported so far, so I assume that they're just fine. Most of the time problems are identified very quickly after the marker is releases, and are fixed. So far I don't think anyone has really had a problem with theirs, I know a few people with them, and all of them work very very well.

Yes, but it still uses spool valve operation, which is why Dye is suing SP. :P
Which is why he's buying it with the low low resale.
It's going to get lower and lower, by the time he wants to sell it for a better marker, it will be lower than it already is. He's going to be losing a lot of money, but that's his decision.
BTW - If you've already made up your mind, don't bother posting a thread. You've already seen that a huge percentage of the people that posted told you to get an ION, but it appears that you didn't listen anyway. :banghead:

Are you playing for a college team or are you just going to start playing in some tournaments while in college? If you are going to play for a college team I would go with a used shocker with evolve if I were you.
