I've heard a lot of stuff about the kits out, and I have come to a desicion that the freak or the redz pepper stick are the only ones that i have to choose from, but I was doing some thinking and wondering if it is really worth it, or if I would be better off getting something like a bommie, or another top of the line barrel. My friend has a freak and he said that he only really uses the .689 cause most of the paint is that size. So basically if I am shooting about 3 different types of paint and all are most likely going to be .689 is a barrel kit worth it.

In other words if I have a freak and a bommie and a perfect paint match in both, which will perform better.

Hope that is easy to understand.

Thanks

i think if u get a better performing barrel like the stiffi or boomstick, then it will be more accurate,

just get the correct paint size

first off, just cause the freak is the most well known kit does not mean its the best. i have a cp kit and i think it shoots far better than my freak kit did. also, unless you have a cocker where you run the risk of ball rollouts, then i would just get an ultralite or cp one piece and not deal with the whole that whole freak inserts junk

if you are certain that you will only be shooting several kinds of paint, all of them in the same bore size, then I'd just get a two piece, and get a couple of different bores for it as backups in case you do use a paint that doesnt match it.

If you want to be safe by having a barrel kit but don't want to spend to much get the empire 4 peice, it costs less then a single bore stiffi.

another alternative is buying a barrel and the inserts/backs separately so you get just the ones you want.

If you are shooting only the same size paint or paint very close in size, there's really no reason to buy a kit. Kits work best for players (usually tourney players) who travel and use a wide range of bore sizes. If you are really concerned about it I'd do what DarkWolf said:

That's probably the cheapest method. If your field has a .685 paint and .693 paint for example, you can just buy 2 backs instead of paying for a whole kit. The Freak is one of the most expensive kit and although it comes with a lot of bore sizes, many are useless. I'd go with one of the cheaper kits.

Just buy a .690-.693 back and go shoot everything, much easier method.

agreed with all that, all you need is 689 to 693 and you're covered like 99% of the time, with every barrel kit i've had inserts/backs in that range is all i used while everything else sat in the case, that includes: the freak, old kaner kit, new kaner kit, and cp kit

Bottom line, i say this a lot good barrel+good paint=good/great accuracy. Just make sure the paint isnt bigger than your barrel. If you do shoot lots of different paint it's called a cp 2-piece with several backs.

Something that I noticed lately is that people have been buying J&J and Empire and Evil Kits. Because they are cheeper. And I know I just got a 7 Piece Empire kit for my Alias and only cost me 80. And its does the job as any other kit. I think people are finaly comming around. Just because it cost more dosent mean its better. I after 12 years of playing. Testing and barrowing people guns. Its all hype buy what you like thats the best policy

3 sizes is all u need.

most stock bbl's are .693, thats big...

so u need 2 smallers..
.689/688

and a .686/687

Even though they say the paint is a certain size...it all depends on the storage life, temperature and so on...just to have the flexibility to match the bore to the paint will help...but as for a barrel kit...IMO I don't think it is worth it...you can get like a CP two piece with like 3 different size backing and it will work just as good as a barrel kit...of even get 3 different bore sized CP one piece...
