i've been thinking about this a lot lately, and i'm wondering where most speedball players started back when they were newbs. were you originally attracted to paintball as the war game (scenario), paintball the hobby (rec), or paintball the sport (speedball)? if you started playing paintball to play soldier or just shoot your friends in the woods, at which point did you decide that you wanted to take it to the next level? why did you make the switch? these answers may be able to help reshape paintball for the future.

When I was 8 I saw my uncle play with my cousins in a huge tourney in boston and I wanted to play speedball from then on. Got my first gun at 11 and still playing and currently rocking the Ion at the age of 13 and on a kick *** 3 man team.

saw the brass eagle for 25$ in walmart, went home and typed in paintball on google, came up with the best sport know to man. bought my first gun for christmas, and have been hooked ever since.

I just started in the woods with my friends. Never expected this to become such an obsession.

Played for the first time at a friend's birthday party in 7th grade, then got a Spyder and played rec for a month or two, then played with much better players with a Spyder. From Spyder to STO Cocker which got stolen, to Angel LCD, to Texas Storm Timmy, I just kept plaing with better players on better fields and practicing more for better tournaments. My team will be playing Bunkerfest this July and then will be most likely playing PSP 5 Man.

None of the above. I actually played for the first time with boyscouts. After that, I was hooked. Played twice more, and then my Dad and I both bought Spyder Imagine packages off of eBay. Been pllaying ever since.

I played woodsball with my friends a couple times, and got hooked. I moved on and they stayed.

I got my friends into it and we built a pretty sweet woods field in his back yard. I then got more into speedball, got a mag, sold it, got a timmy. I got on a team but then because of some BS they didnt think I could do 5 man. Now they want me back, but I plan to play woods/walk on/scenario/stock class and do three man next year. This is all in a span of a little more than five years. So Iv been around (not as much as some).

Same here. I never thought I would end up pouring so much of my time and money into this addicting sport.

It is kind of nebulous the way I played when I was a newb. None of our fields really did get past the size of a speedball field but they were all woods. In the early days it was jungle like in that you could only see 30 feet away. Some neighbors finally came to play us three bros and we decided to play something like speedball. It was actually faster than speedball 4 on 4 60 feet, not enough bunkers, very close together. We decimated the neighbors and they never came back. Finally I bought a car so I was able to travel around a little. My bro and I entered an outlaw speedball tournament with just plywood boards and junk. We blew away everyone and were undefeated before the finals. We got in a controversial 2nd place. I still had an 18 inch barrel at the time. I guess that was the third time I bunkered someone as well. I went to a sup airball field after hearing about it after 1 year of playing. There was not enough people so I played against the refs. I managed to take out two people each game. That's it.

I prefer to play sup air, but in florida they banned the one sup air field that was near me. I was forced to play outlaw in camper woods. Slightly bigger than a speedball field. I guess I can never permanently step out of woods, because it's always available when the other fields shutdown.

Went once with my neighbor for some woodsball, instantly hooked. Kept going and finally decided to try speedball. I got destroyed, but I kept at it and now Im decent and Im playing only speedball.

me and a couple of friends decided to get some guns and mess around in the woods one day. 'Twas awesome fun and we fell in love. Now that i think about it, the only ones who are still into paintball out of our group of friends are the ones that played that day(GB, crazywayne on pbr)

Well I heard a couple of my friends talking about paintball. I was 11 and I heard about paintball before but barely new it existed. But I decided I wanted to try it with them. So I had money on hand and explained everything I new to my mom about it. She ok'd it so went and got me a VL Orion. Had fun been playin ever since now I am soon to be the proud owner of a Ion.

Hmm...it all started as an outlaw b-day party w/ Talons...

I never thought it was so addicting

we started playing outlaw, cause we thought it'd be cool to get to shoot each other...damn, that was back when i was 9 or 10...

played a lot of scenario, but never really to be a "soldier", or to play a "wargame".
