I really want to figure out what this stingray barrel is called. I wonder if any of you guys have ever seen it before. It fits on the stingray one and only the stingray one (I tried it on a stingray two and a stingray ice but it wouldn't fit because of the little tabs on the sides), so I'm assuming it's kind of old. It came with the stingray I bought for $20. It has a black plastic cosmetic outer shell that is made out of the same matierial as the stingray. There is an aluminum inner barrel that is the actual barrel that slips into it. It is exactly eleven inches long. Heres a crudely drawn picture I made of mine. Has anyone else ever seen this? If so whats it called?

Hehehe. That is a plastic shroud that was on the old Ray1s. They had an 11inch aluminum barrel inside them. I wrapped a few stips of tape on the end of the barrel, then put it inside the shroud. It will keep the barrel from wobbeling inside the shroud.
Just look around for Stingray 1 stuff on the net.

But it's not the stingray1's stock barrel is it? I thought the stock barrel was the little stubby metal one. The same for all the stingrays right?

Hes right. The barrel you have a pic of is the stock barrel for the first generation of the stingray. In 1996, they switched the barrel to a short 'bull' style one and called the gun with the new barrel, the 'stingray 2'

i read somewhere that testers found the short barrel to be more accurate than the long on which was on the Stingray 1 so they went w/ that...

that is correct, when they came out the ray 2 the teams testing it said the smaller barrel was mor accurate, but this was also do somewhat to the dumping of the shroud on it

Here's a pic to compare the two Ray models.
The one on top is the Stingray 1 owned by Jason Mohn. It had a leak in the tube connecting the ASA and valve, easy fix.
The Stingray 2 is owned by my friend Ed, given to me for safe keeping while he left for college. You can never have enough Stingrays laying around for newbies to jump into a game of "outlaw" ball.
Note : 1 & 2 barrels are not interchangeable, and our group has not seen any major performance differences. Jason's Stingray 1 is up for sale.

I cut the end of the shroud off (but left the sight rail) so that metal part sticks out. This takes away the problem of the shroud reducing accuracy.
