I realize that a lot of you guys in here already know the stuff I'm going to outline here, but this is basically meant for the new players who are just getting their M98/98C.

CARE of your 98 involves frequent oiling, cleaning, and pampering (so to speak) of your marker. This means that every time before, after, and between the times you play, you should apply a light coat of PAINTBALL MARKER OIL (such as Hoppes #9) to all the moving parts of your marker. Dont just apply it to the o-rings in your marker, take out all of the parts that move (or if you don't know which ones move, just take off the ones that can be). Then, LIGHTLY coat the inside of the marker that contacts the parts with the oil. When you chop a paintball, clean it out the best you can at the field with a squeegie and a paper towel (or whatever works). Then, when you get home, crack the marker open and clean up wherever the paintball broke with a paper towel, and oil everything up again. Pampering of your marker includes replacing parts that have become useless or damaging to your 'gun. This may mean prying off old o-rings and replacing them, or buying a new powertube if your current one is cracked. Also, EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: NEVER, and I mean NEVER, attempt to dissassemble your valve! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

PROPER USE of your marker includes the obvious: no shooting at people without facemasks, no shooting at people's heads, etc. etc. etc. The really important things for your 'gun's life are this: never jam on a barrel; never use badly worn o-rings (they aren't too expensive, stock up!); etc. IMPORTANT: NEVERRRRRR play with your marker if the back circular stop is cracked or worn in a way that it may not stay on! If you do, it may actually explode from the back with enough force to seriously injure you, by actually going through your goggle's lenses. I have witnessed this firsthand, and the user had no goggles on because he was in the staging area. He was rushed to the emergency room and almost lost his eye.

I have spent a lot of time on this (well, time at least) and would really appreciate it if this could be made into a sticky, so that others could add important things onto what I have already said. This is very important for the new or relatively experienced player using a Model 98/Custom 98. Thank you for the time spent reading this.
