I was reading something on the internet and it said something like you can clean your goggles with toothpaste. They said most scuba divers use it to clean their goggles so they can see really good underwater. Has anyone ever tried it or ever heard of this before.

I wish I could tell you the site, but I can't remember it.

Nope, nothing but water an a towel, anything else, and you risk losing an eye.

Actually I have never heard of that but what I do with my scuba mask is spit in the lenses and whip it around. After you rinse it out your lenses wont fog. I don't know if this stops a paintball mask from fogging though...

well... i wouldn't try any wack **** like the toothpaste...

but all divers know the secret stated above...

spit in the lense, and rinse it off.

maybe spit and salt water together have some sort of reaction or something, or maybe it's just the spit, i do not know.

but i do know that this really helps, i used this technique this break in mexico on my dive, and my goggles didn't fog up at all... the first time i went, i didn't do this technique, and they fogged, and i had to take them off underwater and clean them... bah!

I can't remember if it was divers or not. Maybe I'm getting confused...It's a little late here so I'm tired.

Howdy!

Yup, I'm a scuba diver and alot of us do clean our masks with toothpaste, notice its the paste, not gel (like Aim). Usually you only have to do this with a new mask to get all the film off of it, cause thats a big source of scuba fog. If you do it right the lens will hardly fog. Always a good idea to spit in it beforehand though.

Will it work with a paintball lens? I dunno, could be worth a try, it wont affect the lens in a harmful way despite what some of the people here have said. The thing is it that in scuba lenses its to remove a film which I don't think is present on Paintball lenses.

The finish on paintball lenses is a little softer than scuba lenses, and my guess is that toothpaste would scratch it. I doubt it would ruin the integrity of the lens (JT would say it would, but they want you to buy a new lens every month...) however I would assume it would scratch since toothpaste is really gritty. Don't take my word on it though, since I haven't tried and don't plan too.

Also keep in mind a scuba lense costs a HELL of alot more then a paintball mask, and the paintball mask lenses are more prone to scratching, either way i wouldnt use toothpaste, water or lense cleaner does fine.

Umm... as has been stated, toothpaste is an abrasive compound. Lexan is very sensitive to scratching. This would not be a good idea.

Besides, aren't SCUBA lenses made of glass?

I hppe this will clear things up

1) Toothpaste is used to clean a new scuba/diving mask before its initial use this is not to stop it misting but to remove silicone deposits from the manafacturing process

2) spit work well as a demister NOT with a COLD but you can rinse your mask before use in diving .

3) scuba lenses are tempered/toughened glass (glass having a much higher hardness factor than plastic) hence scratches less

4) dont use any whitening toothpast these have abrasive compounds in them.

Conclusion get a mask with a thermal lense or any anti mist product or stop breathing and don't sweat to much.

When was the last time you saw a biker spit on the visor of his helmet!!!

in short dont use toothpaste, try spit if you fancy (thermal lenses are for me):blah:
