I don't like shooting animals..... but shooting guns is probably the best thing ever...... so I go to a shooting range wiht my semi-redneck family twice a year and pop off a couple hundrew rounds..... usually I shoot:
CAR-15
30. cal bolt action(not sure what type, possibly springfield)
M1 Garand
M1 Carbine
Mauser Sporting rifle
.38 python
.357 magnum
9mm Luger
Colt 1911 .45
Glock 21
They're gun collectors, which explains all of that. And I've gone hunting before and it's really fun but then I feel bad after.

I hunt deer, pheasant, grouse, duck, pretty much anything there is to hunt in Minnesota.

fiend the car-15, it's a colt ar-15? just checkin there, props for glocks, 18c all the way baby! I hate how it's not legal in canada though, stupid liberals. bolt-actions are very nice, I personally ownen a .22 bolt action, not sure on the comp. right now I forget. if I do get another gun it'll be one of three:ar-15, 12 gauge shot gun, or a jungle carbine no. 7 made by gibb rifles.

i cracked up there, im sorry, i think hunting is one of the most wussified sports, its a waste of life, and i love those idiots that go hunting in full camo, not realizing that deer dont even see color, meaning you could wear all red and it would make no difference, guys sitting up in those little tree towers all safe and shooting down at something that cant fire back.
Get a bow, creep along the ground, eat what you kill, and utilize the whool instead of hanging the head on your mantle, then i might respect that formn of hunting a little, otherwise, hell with it.

I know people who hunt who bows, I don't do it personally unless you're talkin about cross-bows, those are *****in! I just can't find a place around here that sells good ones (key words:good ones). well the people that I will be goin hunting with, when we shoot a deer we eat it also. I had deer burgers and steaks this year actually, very interesting I must say. we don't shoot em to mantel on the wall like most hunters around this area.
hey cerberust, your pretty ****in dumb. your supposed to were bright orange when your hunting with rifles. the camo breaks up your pattern against the back ground. also the deer have great hearing and smelling, so its not that easy. so for everyone who has something against hunting either try it for yourself or SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH!!!!!!

Cerberust- you might think it's "wussified", but i've been hunting for ten years now- no redneck WV jokes please- and while i may not be a stunning Atlas when i go to the beach, hunting did physically conditon me a little. Most of the hunters ont hese board remember "the one" animal that they had to drag X fractions of a mile up the hill.
Dear might not be able to see color, but they can see movement without a problem. most other game animals are the same. that's the point of camo.
To hear you call it "wussified" makes me wonder if you consider it "easy" too- in that case, you're welcome to go out on my land and we'll see how successful you are at this "easy" sport.
Shooting a firearm, whether at the range or in the field, had a side benefit fo rme- it helped me learn to calm down.
the meat that i or my family doesn't eat gets packed and donated to an organization called Hunters against Hunger. i suggest to any hunter who has meat laying in the freezer to check out this org.
hmmm.... no respect in feeding the hungry? or keeping me off the streets? or learning how to correctly care for and use firearms? like Rodney Dangerfield says, " I don't get no respect!"

Personnaly I dont hunt.. but I have nothing against it and I would try it. But you dont have to bash it, I mean you dont even have first hand experiance... Maby it is a sport... I mean it takes skill, and its outdoors.. its been a sport for lots of generations.... Its just an opinion and I have no problem with people's opinions but when you start bashing without first hand knowldge thats lame....
maby you just dont like outside sports.. who knows

Hey seg, i NEVER said i thought it was easy, and i still stand behind my opinion that those hunters who sit up in a tree with a high powered rifle ARE p u s s i e s, and since the deer dont see colors, your camo or orange outfit does not affect whether they detect you or not, it depends on if your down wind or not, and whether your rustling as many leaves as possible.
I think paintball is a much harder game then hunting, the enemy shoots back, thinks, knows your coming for them.
AND i will not shut my damn mouth, instead i will make one sarcastic comment.
I love it when i see an article in the paper where one hunter accidently shot another hunter because he thought that guy was a deer, oh, the laughs:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

ok, I think that hunting is a more mature sport that paintball... they both take skill but a VERY different type... Hunting you need patience, paintball its you go shoot everyone you see in a short period of time.... I think you have a wrong image of what it is... you should try hunting before you flame it

ok, i was being sarcastic about the frozen thing, which you obviously didnt pick up on... and how exactly is killing an animal and eating it a P U S S Y thing? maby ur just a little on the G A Y side and would rather have ur burger than go through the work of killing it yourself and cleaning it.... I mean MOST hunters DO eat what they kill... I dont like it when people just do it then toss the carcass or whatever... but most dont

okay- you had your chance.
You don't know jack about hunting, do you? Since you obviously don't, I'll enlighten you to some of the key parts: NOT ALL HUNTING IS DONE FROM TREES!
and, check this out- this'll really twist your noodle: comparatively, NOT ALL RIFLES ARE HIGH-POWERED!
shoot a squirrel with a .300 Mag and all you'll have left to clean is (maybe) a clump or two of fur and a wet spot on the tree branch it was sitting on.
is the cattleman who slaughters his cow with a pickaxe to the skull to keep you in Big Macs a "*****" as well? How about the pig farmer who keeps you in Bacon Cheeseburgers?
And I'll kill two more birds with one stone(pun intended)- I am damn proud of the twelve point head that is on my wall. As i don't log the time i spend hunting, i can only guess, but that buck probly cost me, and this is just a conservative estimate, mind you- 300 hours of my time. patience, indeed.

back to the original intent of this thread-
i hunt, around here just about anything on four legs is legal at some point of the year: deer, squirrel, rabbit, bear, and believe it or not, wild boar.
My list of firearms goes like this:
.300 win. mag for the big stuff
Mossberg 12 gauge for most stuff with wings, and a slug bore for deer season, sometimes
.22 Short for plinking and small stuff
marlin30-30 oldie but goodie
Colt A911 in .45 ACP because i loved it, then inherited it from gramps.
saving up for a .22-250 jsut for kicks
i handload, if anyone else does that, i'd be interested in exchanging some info.

I usally hunt rabbits,squirels,coyotes, birds
My gun is a Ruger 22-250, a Remington 12 gage for birds and a Ruger.22

The last thing I hunted for was Pheasent. I like to hunt. I mean I know a deer is not going to stand a chance with a rifle. But if the hunter eats the deer its different. I dont like the hunters that kill stuff and never eat it. So if your hunting for food do think of use as wusses.

Apparently i DO have to draw things out in crayon for you guys, for yall have goten way of my opinion, i never said i had a problem with guys suplying mcdonalds, i never said i have a problem with hunters that DO eat what they kill, i said i have a distaste for those that kill and waste life, sheesh, your so anxious to shoot yer damn mouth of at me for thinking differently you dont even read what i say. I never said ALL hunting was done in tree, i said i have a distaste for those that DO sit up in a tree, completely safe. and no, im not part of the ASPCA, i just seem to have a different opinion then the moral majority posting in this thread, OOOH someone who thinks differently, i MUST be G A Y!!!!!
I mean i look at it like this, imagine a sport where theres no possible way for you to lose, either you kill the animal or you dont, win or a tie, no chance you might be killed. in football you have a 50% chance of losing, as well as basketball, and most other sports, but hunting theres no way, unless you get killed by another hunter, so maybe only a 20% chance right?. Now i have UPMOST respect for pioneers like Davy Crockett who were given one bullet when they were five and expected to feed the family, i dont know how many reports ive done on that man. BUT as i said, i dislike those who give themselves every advantage possible.
And i'm not saying its easy to hunt, but if you want a real challenge, try being the deer for a little bit, theres a damn challenge for ya.
I respect you WV, but you didnt seem to read what i had to say, seeing as how you kept straying onto different parts that i never even refered to, AND, good job to the buck that evaded you for 300 hours, if i were a deer, that buck would be my hero.

Since you know nothing about hunting, heres one more fact to you. YOU DONT ALWAYS KILL SOMETHING.. I have gone deer hunting for three years now and I still haven't killed a Deer. I still enjoy being out camping. If you want to eat meat something HAS TO DIE. Hunting Fees go to help wildlife mangement. And they go to make wetlands and habitat for animals. And if we diddn't hunt there would'nt be enough food for all the animals and they end up dying away. Hunting keeps herds of animals "in check"

It's a damn good thing hunting fees go to wildlife management, i remember a particularly glorious era in American History, between 1867 and 1890, when we all rushed west, and killed virtually all the buffallo, taking barely any of the recourses they had to offer.
And Sked, if you didnt hunt, then the superior breeds would dominate, and the weaker breeds would die out, but not all would perish due to lack of nutrition.

*while ignoring the petty and juvenile bickering that seems to be getting more common on this forum*
I hunted early in college, but it got too expensive for me, and I sold my stuff. I only went twice...rabbit hunting. I owned a .20 guage shotgun...pump action. I didn't wear camoflage...I wore Carharts, and a blue hat. I wore an orange vest over my coat, because it's for safety.
Someday, when I have the money, I'd like to get back into hunting. I love deer meat, and so I'd probably start deer hunting. (Ever had venison? Good tasting stuff!)

Im thinking about starting coyote hunting, there are a lot of them around my area. Might hunt some rabbit, squirrel, grouse or fox too. It's been a long time since I actually went hunting. It's kinda hard to find info on fox hunting, whenever I search it seems to bring up the old English fox hunting information.

I don't know. I haven't actually gone hunting for coyote yet, I was sort of hoping someone here had. I know that Grouse tastes good. I think the primary reason to hunt coyotes is for their pelt, but it would so wasteful to throw away the meat. If I don't like it maybe I will donate it to that charity mentioned in the previous pages.
BgB148
10-06-2004, 04:12 PM
ya, i guess the main reason for hunting coyotes is the pelt... I dont know if the charities take any kind of meat either, but i know that here in missouri its called "share the harvest" and you just donate the whole deer and they process it for you and feed the hungry....there is also this new restriction in my area that a buck has to have at least 4 points on one antler to be legally shot... even though i kinda agree that a young buck shouldn't be shot, im gonna be pissed if a little buck like that stands right in front of me and could have been my first deer but i cant shoot it because of the restrictions
