What is the best gun to get if I plan to used seconds? A friend gets really cheap seconds but said you have to get a good gun or they'll bust. My price range would be sub $100 used. Thanks.

First of all, you don't want to use seconds unless your just plinking around in your yard or practice shooting/aiming. You won't want to use seconds in games because they just don't work well. It's hard to get anyone out when your paintballs are curving or they are breaking as you shoot them.

Second of all, any gun under $100 will shoot roughly the same...being it a Pirahna, Spyder, Dragun, etc. when stock.

So it doesn't really matter which gun I get because they all would chop about the same amount of balls. My friend has a Tippmann 98 that he uses seconds with for rec play but said some guns would chop too much and you couldn't use any seconds with them. I'm not a big Tippmann fan and was wondering if other guns would perform the same as he says his Tippmann does. Thanks!!

The thing is, any gun will be shooting the more brittle paint and have an equal chance of breaking them. Try any type of Spyder or Piranha or another stacked tube blowback since you don't like Tippmanns. They will perform about the same.

You will want a motorized hopper. Keep that in mind. Well...every semi shoud have a motorized hopper.

True...but considering you're using seconds to plink in your backyard, you *may* not want a motorized hopper. The paint is already brittle/malformed...it doesn't need any help breaking.

Also, playing with the springs in the marker may help...a softer main spring may help reduce bolt chopping, as it won't close quite so fast. Of course, your rate of fire will be slowed, but at least you won't break quite as much. You may also want to lower the velocity when shooting seconds, as you won't be whacking the ball with quite so much air pressure. Of course, you should have a chronograph ;).

I feel like a nub. What in the world are seconds?

ITs paint that is crappily made (could be any manufacturer) but its not round and it has crappy shells so companies sell it for really cheap.

Oh ok, I thought they were talking about picking up all the paint near the nets that hasn't busted and using that.

It's pretty close to that (from my experiences). I find that pumps tend to break less paint then semis, (I mean BREAK paint) though I'm pretty certain that one wouldn't want to use one with that big a varience in bore size.

If you really want to shoot cheap paint, a barrel is what you need. I would recommend finding a barrel with a bore size of at least .691, possibly .693. Seconds tend to run on the large misshappen side so forget about a perfect bore to barrel match, you want a barrel that all the different misshappen balls will fit through. I always had good luck with a .691 bore size and cheap paint.

Best marker for seconds....Well in the past I did use a few old cases of paint and some cruddy "Rec Balls" of our brown box varity for the cheap-os in a MacDev cyborg [sonic] and didnt have a single chop or bust. Its really gental on the paint. BUt good luck finding a sub 100$ one.

If you save a bit an ION would do you good. Low opperating psi and eyes. Would do you good.

But for the plinking type a nice Talon or Blade will do you good. Its pretty hard to chop a ball with them.
