I was reading ESPN the magazine the other day and it had a story about sports that where being considered for the X-Games and why they wouldn't work. We'll paintball was one of the games, and the reason givin' was in form of a quote by the owner or operater of Paintball.Com, he said "Basically the guy with the biggest gun wins". I have found this to be very untrue, expessially on large fields. I would have accepted that paintball isn't geared toward being spectator friendly. I wish I could give you the month of the magazine but I don't have it, read it in the hospital.

Yes, that's just a wrong statement to make. He was probably put on the spot to say something butch-sounding and he pulled that one out of his business-hole. As the only person I know who plays with sidearms as primaries, I am living testament to the power of pistols to knock out all those big guns.

After being on the winning (pump) side of varrious pump vs semi matchs, I belive I can say that it's the more skilled player that wins, wether he has a blowgun or a $30,000 custom...

Automags are nice pistols.
Size means nothing, FEEL means everything.

Well essentially yes.
They CAN have a front grip.
But without, they really look pistollike.

Person with the biggest gun wins........That's their excuse? What a load.
It may be slightly true, the gun does give an advantage (you can argue about the size all you want) but it does.
Look at weightlifting, the man with the biggest muscles wins. That's a sport.
Most of the Olympic sports are "If you have the best _____ you win".
Football, who ever has the biggest linemen, the faster runners, the smartest QB.
Like I said, that excuse is poo.

I don't entirely agree with that, it is true that strength and speed help to give a advantage, but if a person doesn't practice a lot and fully understand the game he will not win. Proper technique and execution can make up for a lack in strength or speed.

Like it really matters. Most people who play at that level have exactly the setup they want anyway. It's like saying, speed skating isn't a sport, because clap skates are a huge advantage. Of course, anyone skating at that level has clap skates!

Yeah I agree with you Ruffneck. Paintball is more of a skill based and tactical based sport than anything else. Sure you may be able to run very fast and shoot a lot of paint, but if you lack the skills and lack the "paintball smarts" necissary to be a good player, you won't get anywhere in paintball.
Paintball is a unique sport, not like football, baseball or basketball where your size and inborn strength pretty much determines how well you will do. Paintball is more like martial arts, golf or other sports in the sense that just about anyone can do it (it's not designed for one specific body type, though some types have advantages) and anyone can be good at it as long as you practice. If you are a 5'1" basketball player no matter how hard you practice you will never be able to beat and out manuver your 6'7"opponents. However if you are a 5'1" paintball player, anyone else on the field is fair game to you. That is why some people may precieve paintball as not a skill based sport, but a sport based on the equipment (i.e. the paintball gun) But in actuality that is the beauty of paintball. Everyone's markers fire the same round paintballs going the same speed as everyone else's. Since the equipment we use is pretty universal, no one person or types of people can dominate the sport. Little kids with talons can play against the pros of our sport and still have a chance (I didn't say a good chance) at eliminating one of them. Have you ever seen kids in the pee wee football devision play against the pros in the NFL? No, because theres just too big a gap in their skills. And that is what makes the difference between the little kid with a talon and the pro, not their gun or it's setup, but how hard they wated to work and how far they wanted to go with paintball. Paintball-- the sport of equality.
