I copied this from the how-to section of M98center.com
I was wondering if anyone has done this and what are the results?

"I was thinking about what I could do with a stock barrel once and i figured out how to make it a flatline barrel (or close to it). It is the simplest modification and also the cheapest. First, screw the barrel all the way in and mark where the top of the barrel is. (permanent marker should do the trick) Then, after removing the barrel, take a piece of regular masking tape(preferably 1/2 to 1 inch, 2-4 inches long) and lay it on the inside top of the barrel at the end where it is threaded. Make sure that about 1/2 inch of tape is partially coming out over the threads. Also be sure that it is on the very top and that it is straight without wrinkles. How it works: The masking tape on top creates friction, causing backspin (same principles as flatline system). If you hold the gun sideways, you should be able to curve the balls around trees or bunkers, or upside down over the tops of bunkers.(that would only work with electric feed) Im a pretty smart kid huh?!?! Tips: I would reccomend smaller bore paint, but experiment and see what works. I've only tried this with a stock barrel, but experiment with others (obviously not rifled barrels though). you may need to replace tape periodically, just make sure you don't leave any tape adhesive if you take it off. EMAIL ME with results, especially tell me how it works with expansion chambers, nitrogen, different bolts, etc. SOCCRNATE5@aol.com"

I thought of something like that before, but have never tried it. If you're interested, you should just try it. It's not permanent, and if you notice it works, you can experiment with what works best.

Also, please post your results. I want to test it, but as I'm in the dorm right now, I have nowhere to go. :(

I'd love to try it but...My gun has still not arrived, its in my sig. I re-ordered it 2 weeks ago and it takes 3-5 weeks usually. But i'll get my friend to try it on his gun.

Hmmm, that in my expeirience is going to be inaccurate as a water ballon

Me and my friend tried it no my dads gun. And from would we saw it think it works. It looked like it really did put a backspin of the ball.

No, but obstructions in any barrel with throw off aim.

somewhat true but the obstruction is near the bottom (thread part) of the barrell, and theres an extra 11 inches (on 12'' barrels)for the ball to straighten up, so I say accuracy isnt thrown off by much, its not like the tape sticks to the ball as a peice of dirt would...:elaugh:

It does work according to everyone else I have told to try it so far but I haven't had a chance to go try it yet... My friends tell me the accuracy goes down but you can still hit things with it. They also say that the backspin is quite as effective as the real flatline but it isn't that far off!

Simply this:
If you want a mod that will cost you about a penny to do try it. If you don't mind spending the $150.00 on the flatline barrel im sure the accuracy is better (even though alot of people say it isn't very accurate) and the range will be somewhat better on the real flatline.

The choice is yours but I would just give it a try and if it doesn't work out good for you but you still want a flatline get the real barrel.

Accuracy will still be altered .. Infact, it will probalby be altered most if the tape is neer the threads of the barrel.

Every wonder why the Freak system has inserts .. and the inserts go in the back piece of the 2piece barrel. The insert is what makes the shot precise. Accuary is not effected by the tip of the barrel, only the first 6" or so. So enless this 6" area fits the paint well, or is perfectly smoothe.. the precision of the shot will suffer.

This is just common sense to me .. I have not tried this 'mod' .. But my common sense tells me its a waste of time, and my mind can't come up w/ 1 reason for why i would desire curving balls :D

No, accuracy only needs 6" to materialize. If you have a 6" barrel, it occurs in the first 6". If you have a 12" barrel, the last 6" takes precedence. If you had a 12" two step barrel with 6" and 6" segments (like the boomy for example), then yes, the accuracy is all found in the first 6" because the ball never touches the barrel in the last 6". (unless you move your gun around wildly in all directions really fast while firing). If you had a one piece barrel of 12" length, and you did this, you would not notice much accuracy drop off. However, you would also not notice much change in distance either because the ball has had an additional 10" to correct itself.

Accuracy develops beyond the first 6 inches. The pressure behind the ball is given out due to porting, so there's not a chance for trubulance behind the ball to throw it off.
