I've been playing for about 1 1/2 years...and just recently I got into a tourny team...we are just starting out, and being on a serious team has always been my dream, but really...I miss the good old days.
I mean, I could see myself really into tournys later on...but for now, I really just want to play paintball. The turney life isnt as glorious as I thought....drills, drills, drills is what it is...I know, that in the next few years, I will be into that...but for now... I just wanna play more RecBall..
I'm thinking I'm going to get out of this team I'm in and go back to regular paintball for a while...I'm spoiled, I went from a Spyder Victor 2 to a B2K PDS... I really do just want to return to the woods for a while. So I'm thinking I'm just going to buy a mech cocker....start over kind of...I really don't want to get a DM5 after about a year and a half of paintball playing.

You can play woodsball with any type of guns, not just mech or mil-sim looking guns.
Keep the b2k4.

Thats just it...I really don't want to, lol.
I've already made arrangements to sell the B2k. I'm just gonna get a mech cocker. Alot of you will just see this as stupid, some will understand the way I've been feeling about paintball lately.

Oh No! Paintball is actually a sport! It takes dedication and practice! Woe is me! I'm going back to the woods!!!
Pansy.
If you couldn't afford it, I would understand, but "I don't want to work at it, so I'm going back to woods" is a lame excuse.
Let me reiterate. Pansy.

Not at all. If you want to go back to the woods then all the power to you. I still love woodsball as I know most on this site do.
Have fun:cool:

Wtf?
How am I a pansy for just wanting to return to the woods? Its not the work that gets to me... the practicing is no problem. But I don't want to. It's too much for me too fast. I don't want to get into that scene too soon. I don't see how you could not understand that.

Make up your mind and stop contradicting yourself. If you want to play woods and want advice on what to do, don't make some lame excuse about it all. It's obvious to me that you don't want to work at it, and you just expect to be good at it with no pracitce.

Did you think the second you started playing tourney ball you'd start winning tournaments left and right? **** no. paintball is like any other sport. Little league is different from babe ruth, just like rec is different from tourney. If you really want to be good at it, you're making a stupid decision.

Why not just pick up a victor and play woods? Why the cocker? That doesnt seem like going back to your roots. Whats wrong with tournying with your b2k and just messing around in the woods everynow and then with your victor?

K you have no valid reason for selling your gun. Even woodsballer want a better gun to play with. Those kids with 98 Cs in the woods would kill for your B2k.

Yeah Im gonna probably have to quit my team because of another money pit called an old car. Now my problem is that I dont want to quit. So Ive decided that i will still show up every Sunday and show support for the team. So basically im gonna sell my timmy and buy a stock class phatom. So that i can still play but it will be for a much much much lesser cost.

It doesn't feel right...I'm honestly one of those people, that if I don't feel like I earned something, it does NOT feel right with me. I don't think I'm a pansey, I just think I don't like the idea of having a marker that people play for years to get in a year and 1/2.
Am I the only one that sees an issue there?
And I didn't really contradict myself... what I meant was the drills arent too much STRAIN, I just don't like moving too fast.
At my field, I hear that alot of people quit the sport because they go too far too fast. I think I'm going too far too fast. I think I'd like the idea of turney play in the future, but for now I just want to play more woods..

How is a cocker a better woods gun then a b2k? And how much woodsball do you feel you have to play to "earn" the right to use a high end gun? And why cant you play woodsball and tourny?
TehMarker
05-20-2005, 06:47 PM
Because I don't really have the financial ability to keep up with 2 markers, and also if I'm not doing 100% Speedball 100% drills all the times I go, they're going to kick me off.
I want to play for a year or two before I go back to high ends.
And its not about which gun is better...its just about the way I feel about the B2k.
I do not like the idea of wielding a marker more than myself.
I always laugh when I bunker some noob with a dm4...but then, hey, guess what I just realized?
I would be that kid. I mean...a little better, but I'd still get raped alot, and then I'd be categorized in the Dye Noob section
Plus...I still have so much to learn, I believe, from basic Woodsball. I mean, you probably haven't heard of him, but the owner of the local field I go to, Jeff, (Orbital Paintball) played for 5-6 years in woods before he even thought about speedball.
And to this day, he believes that Woodsball taught him ALOT more than Speedball ever had
And he made it all the way to Div. 1 in the NPPL. Thats an accomplishment.

05-20-2005, 06:55 PM
If you don't do all spedball drills all the time, you won't win. Woodsball won't help your game. I shoot a DM5, can you bunker me? Am I just a noob to you? Don't make stereotypes. Rob Kilbourne (Bushwhackers) started playing woodsball when Ollie Lang and Alex Fragie (Dynasty) we're learning how to walk. Now who's better, Kilbourne or Fragie/Lang?
insanepenguin
05-20-2005, 06:59 PM
I think your reading way to much into this stuff. First of all, if you say you'd be getting raped a lot, are you now? Or are you pretty good? What makes you think that your not good enough to shoot a dm4? And you get better at playing speedball by playing speedball, woodsball helps sure, but if it helped a lot, then you would be doing drills in the woods. Also, you dont seem to be understanding that you can do both, a lot of people including myself do. If you cant keep up with 2 markers just keep your b2k, im sure at least you could afford a victor to use in the woods if thats important to you.

I wasn't stereotyping you, I said Dye Noob....the people that get DM5s are their first marker. Those are the people I speak of.
If you're not a noob, and you have a DM5, whatever. I wasn't talking about you.
And...what Div. are you in?
I know Jeff was in Div. 1...how does your PB knowledge compare to yours? He's been playing for around 11-12 years.
And honestly...Rob Kilbourne and the Dynasty Team members are a certain scenario by themselves. All I know, is that when I play woodsball, I feel my skills upping after each practice, and even in a speedball game, when I may get like 3-4 eliminations, I don't feel like I'm improving at all.
I'm putting away my nicely upped Impy for now..because I KNOW someday I shall return to speedball...I just really don't think I'm even worthy of speedball at the moment. And my team coach is talking about all this NPPL busniness and local turneys and all that...I really just don't want to be a part of it 'til I'm ready.

dude keep the gun!!!! most people that play woods ball end up buying a weird dual a5 with a firestorm crank that barley makes 18bps. http://www.specopspaintball.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=179 see keep the gun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

05-20-2005, 08:27 PM
i would just get another gun.... like a pump gun. Playing pump (doesn't matter if it's a phantom or a talon) seriously improves your game, and makes it really fun to play. That's what i'm doing now, only with a barrel squeegie instead of a gun (i try to surrender people with it).
(plus it's REALLY cheap)

dude, you dont have to be worthy of speedball. Just get out there and play. Paintball is about having fun. If you don't enjoy speedball then I guess its fine but your saying your not worthy of it yet? Thats just stupid. I really don't think taking a 2 year break is going to help your "worthiness"
Seriously penguin is right. Your reading too much into it.

You have a very big misconception.
You don't start in the woods, then go to speedball, then go to tourneys, it doesn't have to be that way.
If I could have started in speedball and never played woodsball, I sure as well would have. The only thing woodsball taught me how to do was shoot a gun accuratly, and that's something I would have picked up by playing just speedball.
Woods wasted a year of my paintball career that i'll never get back. Don't let it consume your time that you WILL look back and regret especially if you want to be big in paintball.
Time runs out quickly for paintballers between the time of being able to do the most you can, and then just having to sit back because you won't make it.
Do all of those speedball drills, get better at speedball, don't focus on woods. You're making such a bad decision.
At the very least, if you don't wanna play tourneyball, that doesn't mean you have to go to the woods, you can play rec speedball, it doesn't always have to be woods when you play rec, a vast majority of speedball is played for rec purposes.
If you go back into the woods you might as well just stay there.

Meh, do not sell your b2k, you will probably wish you had not sold it in a month...
Do not buy a 'cocker, I think something that could help your desire is buying a pump, the challange makes the game funner and more satisfying. Building your skills and having fun are things that pump both offer...
Look into buying just a cheap pump like a maverick/trracer type gun... They are as much as you probably spend on a case of paint ;) .

I just think I don't like the idea of having a marker that people play for years to get in a year and 1/2.
Don't think like that. Take 4thDegree for example. He's an Agent here, and I think everyone would agree that he's a very helpful member. His first gun was a Timmy, because after researching, he found out that they were very good markers, and that the guys over at the Timmy Forum are very helpful. You're acting like you're really spoiled, but you're not.
Listen to what ###### Kid 2k2 said. I played Recball for around 3 months before starting to play Speedball with the other good players. I watched my game go from bad to decent very quickly when I started playing against better players. If you play Rec, and you really are a decent player, you're going to get worse. That's why my team is almost never allowed to play Recball, because you're playing against new players that have minimal skills.
If you really don't see Paintball as a sport, then I guess it's alright to go back to the woods and Recball. But if you do see it as a sport, it's like going from School Basketball to playing with a bunch of kids that are younger than you. Instead of playing better players that will force you to improve your game, you will play against players that will almost always be worse than you.

Spencer get a phantom pump and that will improve your skill and most of these guys dont know you personally as i do so they really cant help you

Play nice boys. I got my I on you. err..eye.
For the record, I prefer woodsball myself. I guess I am just old school...but with woodsball, its usually with my friends and I don't have to worry about wipers and pissy attitudes like I do at the speedball field.

Too bad the poem doesn't apply; more people play woodsball than speedball.

Do whatever you want, but to me, it sounds like your just burned out on paintball. Sell your B2K if you want, I wouldn't though, and get whatever you want. If I were you, I'd keep the B2k, but if I sold it, I'd get a nice Phantom. Pump players rock man.

Drills are not that fun but they pay off and traveling is goin to become a hassle and getting your but handed to us when we go to Denver is goin to suck well face people like Demented Kids and PMI factory it goin to suck

I'm not burned out...I mean, I still sit there in school, itching to go out there and start playing.
Warny...I'm gonna go with that...
I already decided a way to do both..
I'm getting a DM4 to play with at drills and stuff and turneys...but a phantom when I'm recballin.
I found the median was the best place to be.
As for the team...I'll work it out.

Instead of trying to justify your descision by looking to external infuences like price and whatnot, just say:
I play woodsball because I prefer it.
Real simple. A lot of people prefer woods over speedball, it's not a bad thing despite what a lot of kids believe. Besides, you shouldn't have to go by what the popular sport of the day is, play what you like how you like, end of story. If someone doesn't agree with you, tell them to get a life.
