well it depends if you got alot of money or not...
Nitro: the best tank i know of is the Mac Dev Conquest ($340)
the regulator is just consistent and it is awsome, but a very nice starter tank is either a PMI Pure Energy or a Crossfire (68 ci ones can run around $100-120... i think the PMI ones are $109.99 now at paintballgear.com... There are also tanks called AGD Flatlines which are really good that are $299.99 for the 68ci and for the 47ci is $139.99 (flatlines are adjustable).. I would recommend getting a PMI Pure Energy 68ci Nitro Tank at paintballgear.com for $109.99 unless you want a 48 ci they are $69.99, its your choice...
Barrels: Boomstick seems to dominate every other barrel, no second thoughts... its $99 at paintballgear.com, Theres also a Freak System which is second best with 8 inserts for $199.99 at paintballgear.com or any other place like acepaintball.com then theres J&J Ceramics which are good around $49.99 at ****spaintball.com i think and theres dye xcels for like $44.99 or $49.99 at any paintball site.. theres all americans around that price too little bit more... I would get the Boomstick if I had the money but a J&J or Xcel would be fine if you dont have the extra money...
My Choices out of everything if I had money:
Nitro: Conquest
Barrel: Boomstick
I I didnt have the money:
Nitro: PMI Pure Energy
Barrel: Xcel

correction also: the xcels are $39.99 here: http://www.actionvillage.com/paintball-barrels-dye-barrels-dye-xcel-barrels.html ... the all americans are $74.99 which are out of the question for me atleast if i was gonna pay $75 for a barrel i would just pay $100 and get the best...
any barrels here are fine...
http://www.actionvillage.com/paintball-barrels-dye-barrels.html
http://www.actionvillage.com/paintball-barrels-smart-parts-barrels.html
Dye and Smart Parts are the best companies for barrels... I would obviously pick Dye over Smart Parts tho... If you ask other people about the freak alot will say its better than the boomstick tho.. but thats only cause it comes with 8 different inserts and the boomstick is only 1 single barrel... You only need 2 of the inserts anyways... I would get 2 different bore size boomsticks for the same price and have a better barrel... (Im not even saying you need 2 in the first place really.. 1 is fine.. just use paint that matches its bore.. and you field obviously has that paint.. well mine does
as for the rest of the nitro part go here:
http://www.actionvillage.com/paintball-gas-systems-nitrogen-systems-pmi-nitrogen-systems.html
anything there will be fine
you could also go here
http://www.actionvillage.com/paintball-gas-systems-nitrogen-systems-crossfire-nitrogen-systems.html
out of those 2 categories i would go with PMI tho.. and keep in mind we are talking about starter tanks here .. You dont really need a conquest or a maxflow anyways
I'd get a pmi tank (74 dollars at paintballgear.com) and a Smart Parts Tear Drop. Sweet *** barrel. Oh, some other after market crap I recommend, a regulator, DYE sticky grips, and a polecat trigger job. All worth looking into:)

no thats not my gun... im not stupid enough to spend that much on a spyder...
The only thing you should do to a spyder is get a new barrel and a nitro tank .. thats it! well theres exceptions with grips cause you can use them on other guns... Then just play with your spyder alot till you get some money and go grab an autococker and upgrade it... You will notice a hudge improvement over your spyder with a cocker
Well I played at spyder cup and I'm on a rec torney team. So these things come in handy. Its also put plenty of cocker and angel shooters in thier place:D . Its handy dandy and oh-so fancy!

people with spyders that think they can own angels and cockers easy are *******es... the only people that lose with autocockers are people that dont have skill... im not saying guns make a player but if you take 2 players with the same skill level the one with the cocker will win... its simply more accurate. its called a closed bolt gun... im sure your a good player but if you had a cocker you would probably own more people
I don't think I can own angels and cockers. I've been owned many a time myself. And I've seen innacurate (to a degree) cockers and there is no sutch thing as a accurate angel. My spyder is extremely accurate and very quiet (it runs a 250 psi). I'm gonna nickname it cocker just to annoy people:D . But all that crap about guns aside, your gun can't stop a ball, but skill can, and there is plenty of that on both sides of the paintball tech spectrum. Just don't underestemate us spyder owners, if you do you'll prolly be wiping thier mess off your goggles. We know how to hold our own and we do it with pride.

im not underestimating anyone... all im saying is the better gun is a autococker.. and the only innacurate cockers are the ones with a stock barrel - thx

Yes yes skill is more important than the marker (gun). As for accurate spyders and inaccurate angels and cockers, we could debate this until we're blue in the face like this fellow -->:( but we wouldn't really accomplish anything. It's all about how accurate the player is with the gun that's important. Having a nice setup doesn't hurt though.
Back to the question at hand. You can pretty much just run nitro on a spyder as it comes strait out of the box.
For cleaning and maintenance of the gun, you should oil your gun after every time you play (as in after you finished playing for the day and won't be touching your paintball gun for a while). You should oil the threads of your nitro tank and the part of your gun that the tank screws into. You should also put a few drops of oil into the bolt of your gun, just by squeezing a few drops down the feed, (where the balls drop in) and dryfiring your gun a few times. Dryfiring is where you shoot your paintball gun with air running through it, but no paintballs. This should cycle the oil from the receiver and bolt through out your gun. Some people say to take off your barrel when you do this so you don't get oil in it, but I usually leave mine on. After you finish playing, you should always remove your barrel and run water through it. This will take out all the little particles of paintballs and dirt and other junk that might have gotten into your barrel. I also like to wipe down my gun with a damp rag after I'm done for the day, more for cosmetic reasons, but it also keeps it clean and prevents particles from getting into the working part of the gun.

I have a Shutter and a 2K2 Cocker - THX ( I dont hate spyders either I happen to use one occasionally and I used to use it all the time before I got my cocker)
What I was trying to say was:
If you lock the guns onto a board so they dont move when you shoot them the autococker will be more accurate... And yes I know the shooter has to be a good shooter to hit someone while in a game...

guys, thanks a lot this actually helped a lot
2 more questions
If the barrel is longer it's more accurate or if not what is the point of a longer barrel
also what is up with the dates on nitro and c02 tanks, and what happens when the date expires?
Magnus55

Yeah it's true, the longer the barrel the better the accuracy. A longer barrel doesn't do anything for distance though, asside from the tippman flatline barrel.
Do co2 tanks have dates? I know the date on the nitro tank is for when it has to be hydrotested. Here we discussed hydrotesting in this thread:

no c02 tanks dont have dates.. the only thing is if a tank heats up over 250 degrees you have to have it tested
XsamX

atleast none of the tanks ive used had dates on them, some peopel say you should test them.. I say who cares! I hope nothing bad happens to me tho! :|
