View Full Version : Convincing my friend to actually move during woodsball...

Okay, for the last two weeks, one of my friends (SPECS: Tippman 98c w/ flatline, 20oz tank) has probably gone through slightly more then 800 rounds but hasnt hit ANYONE. NADA. ZIP. And i dont want him leaving because we'll be short on people then. Usually i find the replacements.
He probably has the best gun compared to all of us lol (two victor IIs, him with the 98c flatline and old me with my stingray II *ordered the imagine with ACS bolt and dye grips =P* so nun of that crap anymore lol)
Rite now, i need ur help because thinking because he has done rifle practice and think he's some sniper, he tries to aim and he sits still. Bunking him is a piece of cake. Raining shots on him with the stingray makes him hide and a little coordination, either me or my teammate bunks him.
So it comes down to it, what excercises or measures can i take to convince/teach him to actually move? He literally doesnt move more then 25-50 feet from where we start.

Ask him if he realizes he hasnt hit anyone in almost 1000 shots, then ask if his strategy needs rethinking. Also, are you on a team(i cant tell from your post, but the beginning hints at it)? If not, then why do you care, he an easy guy for you to bunker.

Try tricking him into moving. Get in a position so you can hit him perfectly, but intentionally miss a couple shots. If he hides, reposition yourself and repeat. Eventually he should give up his spot and move.

He might be afraid of being hit/hurt by a paintball. Also, some people's approaches can't be changed. If he's deadset against moving and exposing himself, then he won't. And if he doesn't have fun because of his decisions, maybe paintball isn't the sport for him.

Ugh, i didnt mention it, but the kid is like so like spoiled in a sense, he listens to a certain extent but eh, a real pain to deal with. Usually we just take turns rotating our teams do to the lack of people, since the woods we play is quite small, we can only have around 6 people max, anymore we risk having like park rangers come up.

Yea, u got a point there, he does flinch quite a lot if someone begins to lay down paint on his bunker.
Pinecones lol, ill try those (seriously) XD
thx for the ideas everyone

Ive played with people like this, it is kinda lame if their really stubborn and the best thing to do is shoot at them till they learn to move.

Take his gun off the break and drop it off halfway up the field.

I played with someone like that. I was constantly moving, and finally it was down to me and him against another person. I couldn't move, or snap for that matter, he just laid down like 50 paintballs if I poked my head out. The other person on my team was just hiding behind a bunker so I yelled out 'MOVE! GIVE ME COVER! GO UP AND SHOOT YOUR PAINT!'. He started shooting like crazy and moved forward and got out...I was just like 'what the heck' and kamikaze ran out of my bunker, got him off gaurd, and just lit him up. So, what I would do is, just start shooting at his feet or something and tell him to move, if your not on his team, just fire a couple times and freaking bunker him.

I used to have the same problem. I played speedball once and I wouldn't move, I was afraid of getting hit. After we finnished playing I got mad at myself because I was just afraid of the paintballs. So I decided to move the next time I played instead of just staying in one spot.
So maybe going to play speedball will help.

Call him some expletives, shoot at him, and tell him to start moving. Explaining that its a team game and everyone has to actually do something could also help...

I don't know if his unwillingness to move is caused by fear of getting shot or something else.
I run a game where players can't cross the 50 (center line) so that people in the back never worry about getting bunkered. It's a good game for introducing new players to the sport. They can move up as they become comfortable, building up their courage at their own pace.
I do find some kids who take longer than others to get that courage up. What I try to do is get on the field with them, "fighting" side by side with them and trying to give them some tips and encouragement during the game.
I might suggest something like "I'm going to move up to that next bunker. When I get there, I'll lay cover fire and you come up with me." Usually that helps. Once they move up once or twice, they become more comfortable with it and start moving more on their own.
I'm not sure if this guy is in the same situation, but give it a shot. Play right along side him and work the encouragement during play. Show him exactly what to do.

You would think that getting bunkered mutiple times would teach him something.....maybe a brain transplant would help:propellr:
I think that if he were to actually tag somebody by moving around, he would be more apt to get away from the camping mode.

Say you suck at paintball and you don't hit anyone because you don't move up.
Or
Say You can't bunker fools if you're 50 feet away.
Or
Be a man.

Buy a paint gerenade and tell him if he dont move ur gonna throw it at him. but if he is afraid of getting hit why does he sit there knowing he will eventually get bunkered?
