It actually does help. For example when I first joined I was a stupid twit. I would flame myself if I was as mature* as I am now and read my first posts.

*No snide comments, I may be a dick, but that doesn't mean I haven't grown up.

And if the register date wasn't there, they would simply say something like "stupid _____"

Fill in the blank with your choice insult.

Why replace something that's not insulting with something that easily could?
