In most cases it is. But i might buy a 68/3000 air system that is steel. how heavy would a full 68 ci 3000psi be compared to a full 20 oz. tank?

68 ci, thats gonna feel like it is made outta lead. the 20 oz would be lighter. good thing about steel is that you don't have to worry about cracking as much as a carbon fiber, or fiber wrapped.

i found some info on xpaintball that had the weight of the tanks. a 20 oz. full is 3lbs 10 oz. FULL

and 68 ci 3000 psi tanks are 3 lbs. 0 oz.

there fore that must mean that the steel tanks are lighter.

No steel tanks are heavier than aluminum ones. It's the compressed air that is lighter than the CO2. I have a steel 68 3000, and it's heavier than an empty 20 oz. But when both tanks are full the 20 oz is heavier.
And it's not really to bad in the weight department. It was really heavy when I first got it but after using it for awhile I don't really notice the weight anymore.
