My friend thinks that carbon fiber is stronger than steel just because it says that in the stiffi barrel review. I keep telling him that steel is way stronger then carbon fiber but he is to stupid to know that and keeps saying its not. what do you think?

I thought carbon fiber was 6x stronger then steel. or something

you can break a stiffi over your knee. try that with a steel... anything.

LOL ya thats what i told him. But he is to thick to figure that out.

Carbon fiber is stronger per ounce.

Watever id like to see a stiffi and a boomstick and see what one is stronger?

I think carbon fiber is stronger in certain applications because it can expand a little bit. An example would be Fiber Wrapped Tanks... But I dont think a random piece of carbon fiber would be stronger than a piece of steel.

Not really because with carbon fiber tanks you need a tank cover and with steel you dont.

i think that's right. carbon fiber is strong, and it's hella light. steel is strong, but it's a lot heavier. i wouldn't be surprised if 10 oz. of carbon fiber was stronger than 10 oz. of steel.

Ya theres the catch. Its because its so light but its not really stronger.

I'm not too sure about that. The reason why 4500 tanks are not made with steel is because carbon fiber can just withstand the pressure while steel can't. That's what I think. But a bar of steel will be a lot stronger than a bar of cf.

What pressure are you applying to the barrel to make it bend or snap? What are you doing while playing paintball that's going to make it snap? A superman dive gone bad? I've had a ton of those and haven't had my barrel screw up yet despite my marker flipping around and doing somersaults across the ground. I do believe my barrel is alumunum.

I dont think that has anything to do with how strong they are, covers are just recommended so you dont damage the fiber wrap.

Carbon fiber, while being lighter, scratches easier and is softer than steel. That's why there are tank covers. That and the tank gets hot when you fill it. Also they look cool and give some friction for your shoulder.

Um this wasnt the point, the point was how strong they were.

No the reason they have carbon fiber tanks is because they are so light not that they can hold more pressure:rolleyes:

Pound for pound carbon fiber is stronger than steel. The only reason you can break a stiffi is because it is so thin they advertise for how light their barrels are. Get that through your head.

You're a moron.
They use carbon fiber because if a carbon fiber tank "explodes", it will just stretch and shouldn't hurt anyone seriously, however a steel tank will send metal fragments out at a very high velocity.

What if 3000 psi steel tank exploded...And what are the chances of that?

Ya but the main reason is because its so light. You have a higher chance of damaging a carbon fiber tank then a steel tank.

if a swab can pull carbon fiber apart, it must not be strong.
