Am I right, because everyone says they are closed bolt, but I have read that they are open bolt???
Only answer If you are an experienced player, you own one, you work for diablo/airtech, or you are an airsmith.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm
I either am one of them, or I know someone who is.
aardvark (the guy who made the matrix) has told me this basically: it's open bolt. dah end to that.
I own one and too me, it always looked like it was open bolt when I shot a single shot each time.

Thanks. I was 99% sure that they were open bolt, but lots of people keep saying that they're closed bolt for some reason.:freak:

not a problem :D
I always thought it was also, till aardy told me then I just when "oh, oh okay then"
whatever he says about the matrix I'll believe. heck he could say if you throw parts of fish in the bolt it'll help with effiency and I'd believe em.

no seirously though... they fire in a closed bolt position.
they honestly do.... the air does not pass through the bolt until the ball is in the barrel.... thats why if a ball is half way in the breech... and if you have a trinity (or other low pressure reg... I use shocktech) the bolt wont chop the ball... you think if air was running through the bolt at that time, the ball wouldnt chop? hellz yea it would!
Mr. y2K... I am surprised you didnt know this.
but sitting at rest, the marker is in the open bolt position... so yes... it is an open bolt marker. (but not when firing!!!!!!!)
so you get the same performance as a closed bolt marker.
:P :D :P

hey I'm going to write what I was told by the designers of the gun
but I'll ask him again to see about the technicalities about it, because maybe it is, maybe it isn't. who knows. either way I don't care, so long as I don't chop balls :|

Every gun fires in the closed bolt position don't they, otherwise it would get massive blowback? I think that "fires in a closed bolt position" is just a marketing thing. I don't think closed bolt guns necessarily shoot better anyway. But, that's just my opinion, and matrices are awesome guns.

yes they are.
yes they are.

ds613, no not every marker fires in the closed bolt position.
And yes, the matrix is considered a closed bolt marker.

All bolt using guns fire in closed bolt operation. Now let's think about this, if the bolt didn't seal off the feeding tube, where would the gas(lets assume air go) mostly into the hopper causing your paintball to go forward about 3 feet. Now let's look why they are called open bolt/closed bolt guns. When a gun is in normal "cocked" state the bolt rest either in open or closed position. In cockers and other closed bolt markers the bolt is closed when not fire, then when fired the gas shoots the ball out, cocks the bolt back allowing for a ball to fall into the chambe for another shot, that is why it is closed bolt NOT BECAUSE THE BOLT IS IN THE CLOSED POSITION WHEN IT SHOOTS! Now spyders and other open bolt guns, the bolt sits in the back postion and a force(depending on the grade of marker, air in high end springs in low end) push the bolt foward to seal off the feed tube. The ram rod that is connected to the bolt opens the valve that sends a burst of air to shoot the ball and push the bolt back into open postion. Now that is of course a 2 tube bolt/ram gun. Automags work differently by having the air blow the bolt forward and haveing a spring recock. Now if there is anymore question post them and i'll try to answer them, but ALL GUNS EVEN STRINGRAYS FIRE WITH BOLT IN CLOSED POSTION TO SEAL OFF FEEDING TUBE.

I think that article should put aside all open/closed bolt controversy.

A lot of people dont consider that test valid.

All guns fire with the bolt sealing the feed tube, all guns fire from closedbolt, but not all guns start the firing (loading, bolt movement) sequence at that point.

Could you explain this because it makes 0 sense to me. I had an Impulse and It didn't fire until the bolt was closed (the ball was in the barrel). From what I have read, a matrix fires once the bolt has passed a certain point, but it would still have to open the air passage a little to let the air through, and Mr. Y2K said that the guy who made it told him it was open bolt.

my brother and I had a similar discussion when he first got the matrix. it was simply resolved by looking down the feed tube and firing a couple shots of air. we thought it was closed because it didn't make a cocking sound when gassed up. but if you look down the feed tube you can clearly see the bolt lays at rest in the OPEN position, fires forward and returns to the open position.

Ok the matrix is an OPEN bolt gun. The autococker and excaliber are closed bolt because when the marker is not firing the bolt is in the closed posistion. Yes this makes absolutely no difference so greg you got everyone riled up by posting this thread:crazy:

I posted this when there were a bunch of people talking about how the matrix is closed bolt. That was a while ago. I was really trying to find out for sure that they were open bolt.

Yeah seriously, how can the matrix posibly be a closed bolt gun, and name one single marker in the entire universe that doesn't fire from a closed bolt position. This is the dumbest argument ever, and we owe it all to Diablo's dumbaass marketing putting out "Hey, our gun fires from the closed bolt position". The people in avertising need to be dragged out into the streets and...
Well I digress. Point being, matrix open bolt, all guns fire from the closed bolt position

Actually, since the trap door servers the purpose of a bolt (to seal off the feed tube) and the epic fires from the trap door forward position (aka bolt forward) you're wrong. In your eye, apple pie
