T1 lcd problem

I haven't been using my T1 for a while, when I took it out the case and turned it on, my LCD shows either all "Squares/blocks" on the top row or blanks. I assume the LCD is screwed up or the board, but I'd rather ask the ppl here. What exactly is the problem here? Also, how much would it cost to fix this problem?

My friend has this same problem with his TES, we call it talking alien,
anyway, if you replace the battery usually it will get rid of the problem but sometimes if you just turn it off then back on again it won't do it

My TES did that once, all I did was get a new battery. If getting a new battery doesn't work however, make sure all the wires/solders are good.
